Louis Vuitton Marks 130 Years Of Its Iconic Monogram

Celebrating its 130th anniversary on January 11, the legendary maison launches three special-edition bag capsules as part of the Monogram Anniversary Collection

Designed by Georges Vuitton in 1896, the Louis Vuitton Monogram has transcended generations to become one of the most recognisable and acclaimed symbols in fashion. What began as a tribute to his father, Louis Vuitton, has evolved into a universal emblem of heritage, culture, and innovation.

Long admired by generations of celebrities, the bags have graced the arms of Audrey Hepburn and Catherine Denueve, as well as Rihanna and Paris Hilton.

To usher in the new year with a celebration of renowned craftsmanship, the House marks 130 years of its esteemed print on January 11, with the unveiling of its Monogram Anniversary Collection. Comprising three special-edition bag capsules – the Monogram Origine, the Vache Végétale Naturelle (VVN), and the Time Trunk – the collection reintroduces classic silhouettes such as the Speedy, Alma, Keepall and Noé; each reimagined to honour the House’s signature savoir-faire.

The Monogram Origine

An ode to the original monogram pattern, this capsule reinvents the canvas through a traditional jacquard weave, now crafted from a blend of linen and cotton, in a palette of soft pastel tones. Inspired by the cover of an archival client register, the design is applied across a selection of styles and even extends to frangrances and smaller accessories.

The VVN

Paying homage to the Maison’s tradition of natural hand-finished leather, this capsule is crafted from vegetable-tanned cowhide, known for its purity and pristine finish. Embodying the core values of authenticity and integrity upheld by the House, the collection exhudes the unmistakable trademark of Louis Vuitton.

The Time Trunk

This bold tromp-l’Å“il print was first debuted at Nicolas Ghesquière’s Autumn/Winter 2018 women’s show, carrying forward Louis Vuitton’s heritage and legacy. Re-envisioned for Autumn/Winter 2024 to celebrate Nicolas’s ten-year anniversary as Artistic Director of Women’s Collections, the design blends tradition with modernity, reproducing the textures and metallic details of the House’s archival trunks while maintaining a glossy finish.

Through this milestone, the Monogram’s history evolves into a living legacy, one that continues to be carried forward through generations.
