Maison Margiela Launches Its New Tabi Collector’s Series
The maison’s much loved hero has been reimagined, dressed in glitz and glamour in time for the party season ahead
The Tabi remains a timeless emblem of Maison Margiela since its debut in 1988 under Martin Margiela. A testament to the house’s avant-garde spirit and dedication to craftsmanship, each pair is the result of exceptional artisanal expertise – brought to life by a team of eleven master artisans – whose precision upholds the Maison’s enduring standards of excellence.
Maison Margiela introduces the inaugural edition of the Tabi Collector’s Series – a yearly reinterpretation of the House’s signature silhouette – with the Broken Mirror embroidery, a limited-edition creation inspired by the iconic Broken Mirror treatment first introduced in the Autumn/Winter 2015 Artisanal collection.

Reflections of light and metallic silver hues are foundational elements in the composition of Maison Margiela’s DNA. The Broken Mirror embroidery embodies this formula through its silver-coated lattice – applied to the leather of the Tabi – which cracks as the mirror subtly shards, revealing the material beneath.
The boots are hand-embroidered with over 8,000 glass beads, sequins, and metallic detailing (designed in various shades and laser-cut to depict the splintered surface of the matured glass). Individually treated, the fragments form a delicate gradation at the edges, evoking the natural oxidation of a fractured mirror over time. Transparent glass beads are interspersed throughout the embroidery, adding layers of depth and luminosity to create a mosaic of reflection and distortion.

In light of this mastery, Maison Margiela showcases a film, created with the Italian film maker and video artist Yuri Ancarani, exploring the journey of the Tabi – from seed to fully realised form – heralding the shoe as a work of art.
The Tabi Broken Mirror is exclusively limited to just 25 pairs worldwide, and will be displayed in selected stores from October 30, 2025.
