When Worlds Collide: All The Details Of Mariam Farid and Mahmoud Sebie’s Elegant Wedding
A love of both sport and Doha brought Mariam Farid and Mahmoud Sebie together with a multi-cultural celebration
A foundation built on “friendship, respect, shared ambition, clear values and genuine intention” brought Mariam Farid and Mahmoud Sebie together. Both entrepreneurs and prominent sports figures – Mariam on the Qatar National Team for track and field and Mahmoud an MMA fighter on Team USA – it was over a day spent together discovering the beauty of Doha, that feelings first developed. “There was something very effortless about that day. We connected naturally, as if we had known each other for much longer.” Then, after Mahmoud moved to Doha, the proposal followed soon after.

The wedding planning itself was an unintentional whirlwind, with just one month to pull the detail orientated affair together. “What could have easily become overwhelming turned into one of the most beautiful journeys for us,” the Qatari bride recalls.

With its timeless, elegant appeal, The Plaza Doha Hotel played host to the 100-guest wedding, planned by Maison Spectrum and executed by Occasions. “With both of us coming from multicultural, multilingual and internationally exposed backgrounds, we wanted every detail to feel thoughtful, elevated and intentional,” Mariam explains. This meant eschewing a traditional wedding for one that “blended multicultural influences in refined and emotional ways.” The elegance and royaltyinspired sophistication of Qatar, the intimacy and romance of Italy, the warmth and festival energy of Egypt, the generosity and hospitality of Arab culture…

There were myriad Middle East inflections throughout. For her dress, Mariam turned to Egyptian designer Inas Ali, paired with custom-made shoes by Bridal by Maisa, and earrings by Al Fardan Jewellery. The music mixed Italian-inspired melodies with Khaleeji sounds and verses by Umm Kulthum, and a first dance to Ana Alby Dalele by the legendary Layla Murad.

For Mariam, there was one particular moment that stands out as deeply magical. “When I went from ‘miss’, holding my father’s hand, to ‘mrs’, becoming Mahmoud Sebie’s wife,” she smiles. “It was incredibly special, emotional and symbolic for us as a family.
