Okhtein Lets You Design Your Own Bag in Their Riyadh and Dubai Boutiques
The Egyptian label was founded by sisters Mounaz and Aya Abdelraouf. Now, they have launched a bespoke service at their Riyadh and Dubai boutiques. Clients choose colours, patterns, and embroidery details. Every design is tied to a persona inspired by Arab women. Specifically, the meaning behind their names shapes each piece. After your selections, Okhtein sketches the design. You approve it. You tweak it. You finalise it. Then, your initials are embroidered inside. A unique number follows. That bag exists nowhere else in the world. The sisters built their brand on medieval metalwork and modern edge. They call it “carry-able art.” This service takes that vision further. It hands you the pen. You are not just customising here. You are creating something entirely yours.

SALAM at Tashkeel (March 13 to April 13)
When you cannot face another loud plan, SALAM is a reset. Tashkeel’s group exhibition looks at contemporary Arabic typography and calligraphy with a modern, design-led eye, moving between crisp typographic experiments and more expressive, hand-driven works. It is the kind of show that makes you slow down without asking for effort; you start noticing spacing, weight, the shape of a single letter, and how quickly it can shift the mood of a whole piece. SALAM opened at 9pm on March 13 and runs until April 13 at Tashkeel in Nad Al Sheba 1, with daily visiting hours from 8am to 11pm, so you can drop in first thing or keep it as a late, calm evening plan.

Eid
Alserkal’s Eid Gestures (the plan when you want the city to feel soft)
If Eid had a tone, this would be it: not loud, just naturally fulfilling. People in the same place at the same time, with enough going on to make staying feel like the favourite choice. Alserkal Avenue’s free, open-to-the-public programme runs March 20 to 22nd, and Saturday,March 21st is the family anchor. Kids’ workshops run 10am–5pm at Warehouse 46 (painting, portrait playground, DIY plushies, stressball-making and more), then the evening eases into the sort of calm that still counts as a proper plan, with Basma Choir at 5pm in The Yard (in front of Concrete), followed by Cinema Akil’s Lift Like a Girl at 6:30pm, same location. The detail you’ll actually remember: 12–3pm (while supplies last), 11 F&B outlets across the Avenue are each offering one special Eid menu item for free, courtesy of Alserkal Avenue (CarniStore, Nightjar, Lila Molino, Pekoe, Kave, Subko, SALATA, Akhou Manouche, Little Fox, Manna Burger, Fat Sandwich).

Five Ways to Spend Eid Under the Stars (and Somewhere Beautifully Quiet)
If Eid is your moment to get out of the group chat and into a landscape, make it AlUla. Start at Husaak with Arabian Aroma, a perfume-making workshop where you blend notes like oud, amber and musk and leave with a personalised scent. Do Elephant Rock by horseback for a slower look at the landscape, with a stop built in for light snacks and the view. After dark, book A Magical Journey Among the Stars, a stargazing experience led by astronomers with storytelling under AlUla’s clear skies, in a destination home to four certified Dark Sky Parks. For history, the Dadan and Jabal Ikmah premium tour runs by private 4×4, covering two key archaeological sites and the Dadan Visitor Centre’s permanent exhibition, Illuminating Discoveries. Finish with Sharaan dinner and stargazing in the Sharaan Nature Reserve, combining a sunset drive, a lantern-lit dinner and telescope time.

Berenjak at Marsa Boulevard (March 19 to end of April)
This is for Eid nights when the group chat is chaos and you refuse to turn dinner into admin. You want movement, good people, and something satisfying enough to make the walk feel like part of the plan. Berenjak is popping up at Marsa Boulevard from March 19 to end of April, bringing its London-born, Tehran-inspired kebab-house energy to the waterfront. The menu is built for grazing without getting precious about it: barbari you tear and pass around, mast o khiar that disappears faster than you think, then the left-turn favourites that keep the table interested, the Koobideh Taco and the OG Koobideh Burger. Save the last bite for the niche flex, because you’ll want one: Persian Tea Soft Serve, infused with Ceylon and bergamot, layered over date and walnut cookie crumble. It’s the kind of pop-up that feels like a proper Eid link-up, social without trying too hard.
