When is The Next UAE Holiday after Eid al Adha?

Residents and nations will still have three more holidays to look forward to from now until the end of the year

With the Eid al Adha long weekend having come and gone, residents and nations wondering when the next UAE holiday will take place.

Why does the UAE celebrate Eid al Adha?

Eid al Adha is a time when muslims around the world commemorate their devotion to Abraham and the survival of Ishmael, his son.

Arafat Day marks the second day of the Hajj pilgrimage, the Islamic holiday falls on the ninth day of the Islamic month of Dhuʻl-Hijjah.

Pilgrims visiting Mecca flock to Arafat to pray during the occasion. Following Arafat Day (Jun 14-15 2024) Muslims across the world mark Eid Al Adha. The occasion known as the “Festival of Sacrifice” is marked on the 10th day of Dhuʻl-Hijjah.

It’s usually celebrated by sharing a meal with their family, friends, and those who are less fortunate. Overall, it’s a time for religious observance, feasting, and fostering a community spirit.

Do UAE public and private sector workers have the same holiday dates?

Back in November 2023 the UAE Cabinet approved 2024’s holiday dates for public and private sectors workers.

Some public and private sector holiday dates are pending moon sightings.

New Year Day1 Day

Taking place annually on January 1, the first UAE public holiday of 2024 commemorated the arrival of the New Year.

Eid Al-Fitr 20244 Days

The second UAE public and private sector holiday of 2024 was Eid Al Fitr—commencing on the 29th day of Ramadan until the 3rd day of Shawwal. Workers in both the public and private sector were granted a full five working days off, meaning many individuals were able to take nine days of leave.

Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha4 Days

The UAE Cabinet has confirmed 4 days off in honour of Arafah day and the Feast of Sacrifice. It’s been confirmed that residents and nationals will have a long weekend with Monday, June 17 and Tuesday, June 18 off work.

Islamic New Year

The fourth UAE holiday of 2024 will commemorate the Islamic New Year on Sunday, July 7.

Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) Birthday

Confirmed to take place on September 15, 2024 the fifth public holiday of the year celebrate Prophet Mohammad’s birthday.

National Day Long Weekend: 4 Days

Spanning a period of 4 days, the final public holiday of 2024 will take place around the first weekend in December. In commemoration of National Day, residents of the UAE will have the following days off: December 2-3, 2024. This usually constitutes a 4-day long weekend.

When is The Next UAE Holiday after Eid al Adha?

While the Islamic New Year and the Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) Birthday will fall on Sundays, meaning UAE residents and nationals will need to wait until closer to the date to find out if they might have a week date off work.

Many residents opt to do staycations during UAE public holidays, making the most of the long weekends and Ras al Khaimah is a popular destination.

After that the next and last long weekend in 2024 will be the UAE’s National Day long weekend. Residents can likely expect a four-day week with Monday, December 2 and Tuesday, December 3 off work. Specific dates for public and private sector will be confirmed closer to the first week of December.
