Peter Hawkings Exits Tom Ford
Peter Hawking’s tenure as Tom Ford’s successor comes to an end, less than a year after presenting his first collection as creative director
On July 22, ready-to-wear maison Tom Ford announced that their creative director, Peter Hawkings, is leaving the brand – not long after being appointed to the role in May 2023. This is the latest in a series of shake ups at major luxury fashion houses, including Chanel and Givenchy, who are also on the hunt for new talent at the helm.
Hawkings showcased his first collection for the house at Milan Fashion Week for S/S24, and Tom Ford’s S/S 25 collection is still planned to debut as scheduled at this year’s Milan Fashion Week in September.
Hawkings was only new to the position of creative director, not to the brand or its founder, as he had worked closely with Tom Ford at Gucci in the late 1990s, and then soon joined him at his eponymous label when it was established in 2005. Their partnership came to an end when Tom Ford left the company in 2023, following its sale to Estée Lauder Companies, and Ford named Hawkings as his successor.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Peter for his exceptional contributions to Tom Ford from the very beginning.”
Guillaume Jesel, president and chief executive at Tom Ford
As yet, there is no confirmation of who will succeed Hawkings, but the move certainly adds to the industry’s current speculation as to who will be leading some of the industry’s most major maisons next season.
