Will residents have a day off the work week?
With summer coming to an end and school soon in session, UAE residents are wondering when we can expect the next public and private sector holiday to be announced. Eid al-Adha has come and gone, along with the Islamic New Year and National Day long weekend is still months away.

When is the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Birthday?
The Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Birthday is listed as one of the UAE official holidays, will fall on 2 Rabi’ Awwal 1446 AH – which is expected to be Sunday, September 15th this year.

Is The Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Birthday A Public and Private Holiday in The UAE? Will we have a day off the work week?
In the past, when holidays fall on the weekend (such as with Islamic New Year, which took place on Saturday, July 6 through to Sunday, July 7), residents have not receive an extra day off during the work week.
While the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Birthday is an official holiday in the UAE, this year it falls on a Sunday – meaning the public and private sectors will likely be expected to be in office the following Monday. However, as with all UAE holidays, we will need to wait until close to the date for the official announcement from the government.
It’s also worth noting all Islamic Holidays are subject to moon sighting.

When is the next public and private sector holiday in the UAE in 2024?
After the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Birthday, the next confirmed public and private sector holiday will be National Day long weekend. The UAE government has revealed that December 2nd and 3rd, 2024 will be a holiday for all residents, meaning we’ll need to wait until the last month of the year before having another break before the end of the year.
