Qatar Public Holidays for 2023 and 2024: Dates, Timings and Everything Else You Need To Know.
The weeks leading up to the end of the year are always busy – and 2023 seems to be no exception. With the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha holidays long gone, we’re desperately in need of a little repose, a break in the middle of the festive season.

Fortunately, Qatari nationals and residents in both the public and private sector can expect one more day off work before we enter 2024.

Qatar Public Holidays 2023: 1 More Day To Save
Mark your calendars! 2023’s Qatar National Day will fall on Monday, December 18, 2023 meaning bank, public and private sector works can expect to have the day off. From dining out to scheduling a bit of “me time” at the salon, to participating in national festivities, there are numerous ways to celebrate Qatar’s National Day.
What is Qatar National Day?
Qatar National Day commemorates the founding of the state of Qatar and occurs on December 18. It was established on June 21, 2007 by royal decree of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, when he was Crown Prince.
Qatar National Day is a time for both nationals and residents to celebrate why they’re proud to live in Qatar; celebrations typically include parades, fireworks, cultural performances and opportunities to don national dress. Overall, it’s an excellent day to learn more about Qatar and its rich history; sample Qatari cuisine and to proudly fly the Qatari flag. All nationals and residents are encouraged to participate.

When is the next public holiday after Qatar National Day?
Private and public sector workers in Qatar can expect their next long weekend or holiday to occur in April 2024, during Eid al-Fitr. While the exact dates are pending the lunar calendar and moon sightings, the holiday is expected to occur around Wednesday, April 10 – Friday, April 12, 2024 — meaning public and private sector employees can count on having a few days off.
This year the Eid al-Fitr holiday occurred between April 19-27, 2023 – meaning workers in both sectors had seven days off work, leading to an eleven day holiday.
