Heavy Rain in KSA, Qatar And Bahrain: It’s Going To Be A Wet Week For The GCC

Showers and windy conditions prevailed in the area and are expected to continue til May 2

Those living in the Arabian Gulf are bracing for a wet week as a new low pressure system is developing over the region. Several government entities have issued details about the unstable conditions and warned the public to exercise caution.

The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (Meteorological Department) has announced that rainy weather will continue in the country till May 2. 

The entity warned of low air pressure, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions, and chances of thunderstorms that started on Tuesday, April 30. According to a statement they issued, the weather pattern will peak on Wednesday evening, May 1, until Thursday afternoon, May 2.

The Met Office stated that the rain is expected “to be between moderate to heavy in intensity and accompanied by sudden strong wind at times, it may cause dust to rise in some areas”.

A warning for residents due to the unstable weather conditions was also shared. “Civil Aviation Authority (Meteorological Department) calls on everyone to be cautious and follow safety guidelines during thunderstorms and the importance of receiving information from official sources.”

Rain in KSA, Qatar And Bahrain: A Wet Week For The GCC

Torrential downpours also hit Bahrain on Wednesday, May 1 and are expected to continue till Thursday, May 2. 

According to the Bahrain Meteorological Directorate, unstable weather conditions with thunder and strong gusts of winds, reaching up to 40 knots at times, were reported across the country.

On Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures could reach between 30 to 33 °C, with lows of around 22 to 23 °C.

Bahrain’s Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry also issued a warning for residents to exercise caution during the period. 

Heavy Showers in Saudi Arabia

Heavy rains and thunderstorms also lashed Saudi Arabia over the past 24 hours, causing flooding in some areas of the kingdom. 

The Saudi Directorate of Civil Defence announced that the entity is continuously monitoring the situation and asked residents to avoid certain parts of the country such as low-lying areas, where pools of water have formed, and valleys.
