Ramadan 1445 has officially commenced with the first day of fasting having taken place on Monday, March 11. This comes after a new crescent moon was spotted in Saudi on the evening of Sunday, March 10, signalling the beginning of a new month in the Islamic lunar calendar.

With the Kingdom moving into the summer season, the fasting days will progressively get longer throughout the month, in accordance with the times of sunrise and sunset in the region.

With the shifting times of sunrise and sunset, comes a change in the times of suhoor, iftar, and schedule for prayer.

What time is Iftar in Saudi today?

On April 3, 2024 Iftar will take place at 18:18 AST in Saudi Arabia.

How long does Ramadan last?

The month of Ramadan lasts between 29 to 30 days. This duration depends on the sighting of the moon, which will determine the end of Ramadan with the Eid al-Fitr celebration as well as mark the beginning of the month of Shawwal.

As the Islamic months are based on the lunar cycle, Ramadan moves up the Gregorian calendar by approximately ten days each year. Last year, Ramadan began on March 23, while this year it started on Monday, March 11.

This year, the first day of Eid al-Fitr in Saudi Arabia is expected to fall on Wednesday, April 10.

How long do Muslims fast each day in Saudi?

Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset across the globe each day. In Saudi, the fasting day will range from 13 hours and 13 minutes on the first day to 13 hours and 56 minutes by the end of the month – approximately 43 minutes longer than it was at the beginning of Ramadan.

This year the shortest fasting day will take place in Chile, with an average of 12 hours and 44 minutes. The longest days will be experienced in Finland, Greenland and Iceland with 17 hours of daylight on average.

What time is Suhoor and Iftar in Saudi?

Suhoor is the meal eaten before dawn while Iftar is the meal eaten at sunset when breaking the fast. Suhoor and Iftar correspond with the times of sunset and sunrise, as well as with the times of the Fajr and Maghrib prayer.

What are the prayer times in Ramadan?

There are five obligatory prayers in Islam which are to be performed throughout the day: Fajr, Thur, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. The times of all these prayers will vary according to the Islamic calendar.

Throughout the Holy Month, an additional prayer Taraweeh is performed after Isha. This is usually performed in congregation at the mosque in different communities.
