Top Tables: Our Edit Of Dining Hotspots For The Season Ahead

Summer arrives with rooftop dining, Paris-style, and a raft of new restaurant openings from Dubai to Cairo

Sutēki

Promising ‘Tokyo soul, with Dubai heat’, Sutēki is bringing a little flavour and flair to the city’s restaurant scene. One of Dubai Harbour’s newest waterfront openings, it’s designed like an art gallery but run like an intimate supper club – and only serves wagyu. The menu runs the gamut of Wagyu infusions, from raw dishes like tonnato and tataki to small bites of gyoza and croquette, then onto sirloins, salads, sandos and sides. Open only for dinner, it drinks in harbour views from its floor-to-ceiling windows, especially after-dark. With low-lighting, decadent interiors and an eclectic art collection that adds a sense of fun, while the carnivore-centric menu may be the hero here, the restaurant itself is the well-oiled sidekick.

Le Piaf

From the 8th arrondissement in Paris to the first floor of Jumeirah Emirates Towers in Dubai, celebrated piano bar Le Piaf marks its first address outside Europe. Named after the musical legend Édith Piaf, the intimate yet buzzy city hideout is drenched in red velvet, chandeliers and gilded frames, with a live pianist coaxing diners into singing. Designed for a city that takes dining out seriously, the menu blends classic French techniques with local produce. Start with Wagyu carpaccio shaved with truffle and aged balsamic, or the croissant waffle served with mimosa egg and topped with Oscietra caviar. Then segue into miso black cod with pickled daikon or roasted jumbo prawns with saffron potatoes and lemongrass bisque. Save room for the chocolate mousse, which Le Piaf Paris has served since opening night.

Reif Kushiyaki Seasons

Just opened in New Cairo, Reif Kushiyaki Seasons takes the enigmatic chef Reif Othman’s unconventional, Japanese street-style food to Egypt. Set in the gorgeous Seasons compound, with indoor/ outdoor seating and tables that seemingly hover over a water feature, the space was designed by KH Studio using plenty of Japonais reference points, from warm woods to artistic wall treatments. Gourmands will wax lyrical over the menu featuring signature dishes like a Wagyu sando and umami-heavy ramen bowls.

Tezukuri

With every temaki roll handcrafted to perfection and delivered from the chef’s hand directly to your plate, precision and simplicity are an art form at Tezukuri, the newest opening spearheaded by Neha Mishra — the Dubai-based chef behind Kinoya. Guests are invited to linger over Argentine red prawn hand rolls, toro sashimi and oyster spring rolls. Sit at the counter for a front-row seat to the chefs at work, then head to the restaurant’s secret speak-easy style listening bar, Kissa, for a post-supper musical interlude.

Le Rooftop, Fouquet’s Paris

When European restaurants open their rooftops, you know summer has officially arrived. This year, Fouquet’s Paris Le Rooftop has reimagined the exclusive seasonal concept as a Japanese-designed suspended garden on the fifth floor, with the Eiffel Tower and city skyline in its sights. Inspired by the Parisian art of good living and the charm of Japanese hanami, the traditional celebration of cherry blossoms, you can sip afternoon aperitifs in style, surrounded by gorgeous greenery. A peaceful retreat before the sun sets, the mood livens come night, as jazz makes way for contemporary Japanese techno. Nibble on dishes for sharing, such as sashimi, nigiri, tacos and gyoza, whilst sipping on drinks inspired by the rising sun.
