Taller Marmo On Modest Dressing: “Our Motto Is ‘Laid Back And Fabulous.’ For Us It’s A Natural Thing To Do.”
Taller Marmo designers Riccardo Audisio and Yago Goicoechea talk about their take on modest dressing – for one, and for all
Having admired Taller Marmo’s designs for over a decade, I’ve often wondered how its young designers (then in their late twenties) managed to capture retro glamour so flawlessly. It’s a delicate balance – so close to kitsch, yet never tipping into it. A go-to label for women around the world who love exceptional fabrics (and feathers), playful elegance and silhouettes that (really do) flatter every figure, Taller Marmo has mastered the art of feel-good sophistication. The Italian-Argentinian duo behind the brand, Riccardo Audisio and Yago Goicoechea, are as striking, witty and clever as their designs. As we sip espresso in d3 on their recent visit to Dubai, I discover that beneath the humorous fashion banter, this well-paired team are true creatives at their core.

Through years of trial and error, they’ve honed and active understanding of their customer and above all, the unwavering dedication to design for her and only her. “The way we think is that we work for women,” states Yago. “We are in the service of women, of them looking better than they look on a normal day. Our work is to think of something that you could wear that will enhance you. Or it will follow your life or what you do. You go to a party, to a dinner, on a date, you gather with friends, you gather with family, you get married, and our job is to to accompany you. Our motto is ‘laid back and fabulous.’ For us it’s a natural thing to do.”
Founded in Dubai in 2013, the brand has always shared a deep connection with the region. Over the years, the designers have built close relationships with many of their clients, giving them an intuitive understanding of how – and where – their pieces are worn. They were also quietly instrumental in shaping the modest-dressing movement, perhaps without even setting out to do so. By championing refined coverage, fluid silhouettes and statement glamour, they proved that you could look cool and chic without revealing too much skin or shape.

In 2018, Taller Marmo expanded its digital presence by partnering with TheModist, the pioneering e-commerce platform dedicated to modest fashion. At a time when women who preferred longer hemlines and more coverage struggled to find options that felt directional and luxurious, TheModist provided the perfect global stage for the brand’s fluid designs. “After we started with TheModist, our presence in the region got bigger and then everybody wanted in. They wanted to have that reach through us. And then we got really big, in the West. We worked with Net-A-Porter, Ounass, Bloomingdale’s and Harrods – that was a big thing,” shares Yago.

Sublime – by name and by nature – is the house’s newest collection, a curated Ramadan capsule that captures the brand’s signature sense of sleek style. The campaign is fronted by Saudi-French model Amira Al-Zuhair and photographed by long-time friend and collaborator Francesco Scotti. The designers have long championed women from the region, consistently casting powerful and diverse voices in their campaigns. Among them are our Bazaar Arabia cover star Ugbad Abdi, Farida Khelfa and Rawdah Mohamed – each bringing her own distinct presence and perspective to the brand’s creative universe.
The designers admit that as they spend much of their time working, and it’s a rare gift if they see clients out it the wild wearing their designs. Ricardo explains: “We are a small team doing a lot of collections a year. We go from home to the office, then office to home – in a car. We don’t go out and have dinner in restaurants etc, but have people telling us: ‘Oh I saw someone in the restaurant wearing your dress’ or ‘ I saw someone at a party in one of your kaftans.’” On their visit to Dubai the same thing happened with the local Taller Marmo team telling Ricardo: “everyone is wearing it.”

“When we see someone, on Instagram or in real life, exactly as we picture her, we scream. Sometimes it’s completely different to how you envision her which is cool, because we love to see how different women from all over the world interpret us. It can completely change the dress, depending on the angle you’re watching it from,” explains Ricardo. Having worked side by side for well over a decade, the pair have developed a rhythm that is, at times, almost systematic. Yago is the meticulous planner; Riccardo the instinctive risktaker. As Yago says of his partner, “He loves the adrenaline. Our best work is done in the last two days. So, I have to wait. I’m very anxious. I could do things five years in advance. I
could do it now and then not work!”

Riccardo, confidently unfased, counters: “All the bestsellers we have are made in one hour.” When asked whether it has become any easier for Yago to trust those last-minute bursts of brilliance, now that experience has proven they always land, he answers simply: “No. But I know that we’re going to pull through. That I must wait. We are now a team of 20-plus, but for seven years it was just the two of us. We keep working the same way; we haven’t changed how we work… maybe a few things, but the essence is the same.”
