The Surrey New York Nails The Art Of Staying In

The Surrey returns with suites inspired by Central Park’s quiet beauty

There’s a particular kind of glamour that defines the Upper East Side – one that resides in antique parquet floors, silk-draped drawing rooms, and spaces that feel lived-in rather than styled. The Surrey, newly reopened under the Corinthia banner, leans into that sensibility with quiet confidence. With the unveiling of its four Signature Suites, the historic townhouse hotel reintroduces itself through a lens of elegance rooted in detail and design.

Interior designer Martin Brudnizki looked to the bridges of neighbouring Central Park for inspiration – Bethesda, Pine Bank, Greywacke, and Bow Bridge – guiding the aesthetic narrative of each suite. Ironwork motifs, sculptural curves, and muted tones evoke a deep connection to the city’s architecture, but with the intimacy of a private home.

The two-bedroom Surrey Suite, the largest of the four, offers over 2,000 square feet of light-filled space that unfolds with grace. From bespoke Garrison Rousseau furnishings to silk-covered walls and curated artwork, each room has been considered with purpose. The design encourages a sense of quiet belonging.

Guests are cared for with understated perks: a house car on standby, nightly tables reserved at Casa Tua, and in-room spa rituals designed by Sisley Paris. There are seasonal amenities tailored to the rhythms of the park just beyond the hotel’s doorstep, and a sense that every element has been calibrated to feel natural, not performative.

As Corinthia’s first North American outpost, The Surrey, A Corinthia Hotel slips seamlessly into its Upper East Side surroundings – thoughtful, elegant, and quietly confident. Its design pays homage to local heritage, while
its service philosophy favours intimacy over spectacle. And in a city that rarely slows down, this is a place that encourages you to do just that. The only question is: when are you checking in?
