The Ones to Watch: What To Do, Read and Shop This May 2023
Laid-back island life, a new neutral, the thriller of 2023 and much more this May
Jade Chilton shares where we’ll be dining and what we’ll be wearing this Spring 2023.
IYKYK
Sometimes a piece of clothing, an accessory or a bag catches our eye, not because it’s on a must-have list or because someone whose style we love is wearing it, but because we feel drawn to the craftsmanship, the quality and the effortless luxury it exudes without screaming from the rooftops. This is how we felt when we saw Tissa Fonteneda’s bag collection with its buttery soft Nappa leather formed into a unique ‘bubble’ texture. It should come as no surprise that the designer honed her craft at Loewe, enhancing the accessory lines at Cartier, Dunhill and Louis Vuitton before launching her own well-loved brand in 2010.

The New Neutral
There’s a new hue dripping down from the runway to replace classic black and navy: brown. Bottega Veneta introduced hazelnut leather dresses, while it was caramel suiting at Hermès and chocolate lengths at Saint Laurent. Tip: wear with everything you would wear with black – trust us, it works.

Balearic Bolthole
Named after Europe’s most exclusive island, Tagomago is the latest beach club and restaurant to hit Dubai’s shoreline. Overflowing with effortless charm and Balearic bohemian touches, you might feel like you’ve walked into the pages of Assouline’s Ibiza coffee table book. With the sea breeze hitting the terrace while you tuck into a pan of paella in your beachwear, you’ll be seduced by the Spanish way of life.

True Crime
With our huge appetite for whodunnit podcasts and serial killer Netflix series showing no sign of fading, we now welcome a novel that delves into these areas in a multi-layered way. Through the murder of a boarding school girl, author Rebecca Makkai explores the exploitation of real people for entertainment and our collective obsession for a good murder tale.

Taking It Slow
We are all well-versed with the term fast fashion (think Zara weekly drops) while slow fashion favours artistic talent and handmade pieces using high quality materials that are often made-to-order. Enter Marrakshi Life, a label that not only focuses on all of the above but also adheres to a zero-waste policy while creating exceptional garments inspired by the bright and beautiful Moroccan culture –custom-made and delivered to you personally in 10 days, not to the masses, every Thursday.
