The Ones To Watch: What To Do, See and Shop This April 2024

A Saudi beauty launch, a designer spa, the most-wanted bag and more news and notes…

Moonbeam

Yara Alnamlah, the well-known Saudi beauty influencer and former make-up artist, has entered the bustling celebrity and influencer beauty sphere with Moonglaze. And she didn’t do too badly with her debut multi-use brush and glowy highlighter sticks in two shades that sold out on their launch.

Minimally Modest

This is one of those brands that catches your eye, not for its loud prints or bold colours, but for its understated shapes and effortless minimalism. Introducing Rohe Frames, a brand born in Amsterdam with an ethos to create collections that transcend seasons. Though not intentionally a modest brand, the long lengths, high necks and flowing silky fabrics lend themselves to the region nicely.

In The Swim

The under-the-sea trend that had us spellbound last year is still making waves with the award shows last month flowing in sequin scales, mermaid tails and shell patterns. A brand that really has nailed that ocean feel is Oceanus, a brand created by British-born Lebanese designer Hannah Attalah, who formerly worked for Donna Karan and Jenny Packham. Fond of a shiny bead, the designer found her niche in the glamorous swimwear and resortwear field. This season she’s turned it up with coral printed-encrusted high leg swimsuits and marine-inspired mini dresses.

The Not-So-Quiet Luxury

The Hermes Birkin and the Chanel flap will always hold their power, but The Row’s Margaux is hot on their straps. Its buttery-soft leather and inimitable slouchy shape has become so recognisable that there is no need for a logo stamp or any other form of branding. Always selling out, this is one time to call the personal shoppers at Net-a-Porter and beg them to bag you one when they next land.

Relax To The Max

Tucked away on the 29th floor of newly opened hotel, The Lana, lies an oasis amidst a metropolis – Dubai’s first ever Dior Spa. Highlights include five single cabins and one double treatment room all adorned with the iconic Dior Toile de Jouy print and a generous menu of treatments including three treatments exclusive to The Lana. Dior Stone therapy, a sculpting massage and the pièce de résistance, Escale at The Lana – a Japanese-inspired treatment carried out on a futon on the foor, that relaxes both mind and muscles.
