The Ones To Watch: What To Do, Shop and See This March 2022

Pantone’s new hue, indie bistros, the return of the ’90s and girlbossing guide books – just a few of the things that are on our radar this March

A Fresh Take

Former Self-Portrait womenswear designer Riyeka Silburn has gone solo with Riyeka Studios, which we’re hailing as 2022’s first cool, new local brand. The Dubai resident’s recent debut collection was, according to Riyeka, “a contemporary collection that heroes both the modest and the alluring”. As an alum of Proenza, Erdem and Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, we can only expect good things

Polarising Platforms

Queen of the ’90s revival, Dua Lipa has adopted an array of returning fashion fads such as low-rise, G-string-revealing jeans, pink-tinted sunglasses and now the mega-stacked, thonged platform that you’re either going to love or hate. Which camp are you in?

Very Peri

Pantone nominated this ‘not quite purple and not quite blue’ hue as the colour of 2022. Valentino is in agreement and referenced this spritely periwinkle tone on the runway, complete with matching pixie-cut hair and a purse that is a pure expression of joy.

Neighbourhood Joint

A clutch of unique, out-of-the-box, stylish bistro debuts on Jumeirah Beach Road are a pleasant antidote to the giant new restaurant openings typically seen in Dubai’s five-star hotels. Leading the way is 11 Woodfire, an unlicensed hotspot from chef Akmal Anuar of 3fils fame that we’re keen to swing by one breezy evening. The refurbished villa situated in one of Dubai’s oldest neighbourhoods rivals the decor of DIFC restaurants while their woodfire-cooked dishes look sumptuous.

They say knowledge is power and, with International Women’s Day in mind, we’re adding feminist reads to our to-do list this month. Start with journalist Arwa Mahdawi’s compelling girlbossing guide from an army of women in power. Strong Female Lead: Lessons from Women in Power by Arwa Mahdawi
