The Region’s Most Exclusive Event Designer Share Her Secrets for Planning the Perfect Wedding Day
Orchestrating events is Yara Estephan’s speciality; Bazaar Bride chats to the high-profile organiser about trends, timelines and themes
Having planned over 150 weddings, event designer Yara Estephan is the Middle Eastern oracle when it comes to planning a big-day bash. The 36-year old is based between Dubai and Beirut and (usually) starts the planning process soon after the engagement. “I typically come in at the very beginning of the wedding planning journey. For most couples, choosing a planner is one of the very first decisions they make as it sets the tone for everything that follows. Some couples approach me having already chosen a venue, while others look to me for guidance on selecting the perfect one. In either case, I’m there to support them from the ground up, ensuring each step aligns with their vision and creating an enjoyable planning experience,” says Yara.

Selecting a wedding location is high on the list of initial priorities when planning a wedding, but also one of the biggest stressors – especially if the pair hail from different countries or are expatriates. Yara is a firm believer that the location should be all about the couple and everything else will fall into place. “Choosing the perfect wedding setting is about creating an atmosphere that reflects the couple’s personality and story. I encourage couples to think about the vibe they want – whether that’s the relaxed charm of a beach, the romance of a vineyard, the energy of a city or the elegance of a castle,” she advises. “From there, it’s easier to envision which setting feels most authentic. My role is to help them explore these options so they can confidently choose the one that brings their vision to life.”
So you’re engaged – is there a certain time frame that it usually takes to perfect a wedding? “There isn’t a set, average time for planning a wedding, as it really depends on the size and specific requirements of the event,” Yara explains. “Generally, couples tend to book a year in advance to secure their preferred venue and vendors. However, the actual planning process can often be completed in a much shorter time frame, especially if the couple is clear about their vision.”

Rehearsal dinner, welcome cocktail, post-wedding lunch – many nuptials (especially destination ones) run across several days and have their very own itinerary and dress codes. Yara is a firm believer that all pre and post wedding events should be starkly different. “These events should definitely not have the same theme! To keep the wedding day truly special, it’s best if each event, like the rehearsal dinner or welcome cocktail has its own unique character and vibe. This allows each gathering to stand out, giving guests a fresh experience with every event, while keeping the wedding day for the main celebration.”

Yara says just like the fashion and beauty universe, the wedding world has trends too with all roads leading to: “Personalised experiences, where couples tailor every aspect of their celebration to reflect their unique stories and styles. This might involve custom decor, signature cocktails, or personalised vows that truly resonate with their journey. However, my personal favourite trend is the focus on after-parties. Many couples are now prioritising this aspect of their celebration, allowing us to get creative and have fun with the design. Whether it’s unique entertainment options, dynamic lighting, or vibrant colour schemes, the after-party offers a more relaxed and festive atmosphere, enabling guests to unwind and celebrate together in a lively way.”
What is the secret behind hosting a great wedding reception? The couple’s love and good energy. She tells Bazaar Bride that “a great wedding reception is all about the vibe shared by the couple and their guests. It’s the love, happiness and fun they bring that truly makes the day memorable. Whether the wedding is big or small, it’s always the people and the positive atmosphere that create an unforgettable celebration.”

Quick Q’s with Bazaar Bride…
Hard or soft copy invitations? Hard. I like to keep the souvenir.
How many people should be in the bridal party? As many as they want!
What is your dream location for a nutpial? Right now, I would say somewhere in the desert.
Band or DJ? Both.
Should couples gift guests? I love the gift idea as long as it’s meaningful or useful.
How many times should a bride change her outfit? Many brides choose dresses that are beautiful but not always comfortable for the reception. Changing into something simpler and more modern can make it easier to dance and enjoy the party. I definitely support this trend.
What should a bride never do? Compare her wedding to others. And a bride should never leave the dance floor for long!
