This long-term residency aims to reward those who are making an impact in conserving the environment

In the heart of the UAE’s bustling landscape, a fresh wave of enthusiasm is breaking: the Blue Residency. This game-changing visa is offering eco-conservation enthusiasts a decade to make a positive impact toward the betterment of the planet.

Beyond the borders of the UAE, this initiative aims to reward a global array of sustainability endeavours. Whether it’s pioneering eco-friendly projects locally or advocating for green causes on an international level, the Blue Residency celebrates those who make waves in environmental conservation.

This innovative visa promises a decade-long stay to those who’ve demonstrated “exceptional contributions and efforts” in safeguarding our planet’s precious ecosystems.

The Blue Residency will be granted to supporters of environmental action including members of international companies, associations, and non-governmental organisations; global award winners; and “distinguished” activists and researchers in environmental work.

The move was approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as he chaired the Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi. He said the move comes in line with implementing the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who had declared 2024 as the Year of Sustainability.

Eligible individuals have been invited to submit their applications through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. Additionally, authorities hold the power to nominate individuals deemed worthy of this long-term residency.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: “The sustainability of our economy has become linked to the sustainability of our environment,” underscoring the nation’s commitment to harmonising economic progress along with the wellbeing of our planet.

This visionary residency program is just one facet of the UAE’s broader sustainability initiatives, marking 2024 as a pivotal year in their green agenda.

Typically, UAE residency visas have a two-year validity. However, in a testament to its commitment to attracting talent and fostering innovation, the country introduced Golden Visas in 2019, offering a decade-long stay to select groups including investors, entrepreneurs and scholars.

Three years later the Green Visa followed suit, extending residency to skilled professionals and visionaries. And now, with the Blue Residency, the UAE is encouraging those who are making a change when it comes to sustainability.
