Zimmermann’s Spring 2025 Collection Shows Us How To Channel Surfer-Girl Chic

Referencing 1970s cult cinema and surf culture, the Australian brand’s latest collection is a tribute to shoreside style

Zimmermann’s Spring 2025 collection, Illumination, is a love letter to the free-spirited mindset of 1970s surf culture, refracted through the lens of Albe Falzon’s cult film Morning of the Earth. Reimagining Falzon’s cinematic ode to life upon the waves, the collection channels golden hues, flowing movement, and aesthetic brilliance, and brims with light, texture, and organic forms.

“The film is a celebration of free-spirited surfers whose passion brought them closer to nature,” says Nicky Zimmermann, co-founder and creative director of the Australian brand. “It’s so visually stunning – the way it captures the golden morning light and the colour of nature is just so inspiring. We leant into the aesthetics of the film more than surf itself – the irresistible way the film captures dappled light, the flowing movement of the sea and that feeling of harmony between surfer and nature.”

For Zimmermann, the collection is personal. “As a kid growing up near the beach in Southern Sydney, I used to go down to the local town hall where they would play surf films like this. Everyone would sit on the floor and watch them projected on a screen. I always loved those films, the freedom of the lifestyle and the beautiful way that the sand and the surf interacted with the golden sunlight,” she reflects.

The harmony Falzon captured forms the backbone of Illumination. Sun-soaked palettes and fluid silhouettes mimic the ocean’s rhythms, while hand-braided inserts, wooden beads, and untreated cotton lace root the collection in organic design codes. Each piece feels like a meditation on flow, freedom, and connection.

Illumination isn’t only ethereal – it thrives in contrast. Rugged drill utility styles are softened by liquid agate prints and sunset tones, while high-shine metallics and crunchy paper organdy shimmer like sun-glazed waves. Sculptural thong heels and rope skirts add a nod to shoreside living, while accessories reimagine found objects like shells, turquoise gems, and surfboard-inspired hardware.

Zimmermann’s playful touches consistently carry through, found in kangaroo motifs on sculptural clutches and braided sandals that evoke the Australian coastline. With spring on the horizon, this collection feels like an invitation to embrace a life in motion, at one with the sea and surf.
