Dubai’s fast-growing design scene gets an injection of British talent with the appointment of William Knight as Managing Director and Head of Design at Art Dubai Group.
Succeeding Cyril Zammit, he will oversee, and hopefully grow, the company’s design focused division. Under Knight’s remit will be the trade events Dubai Design Week and Downtown Design in Autumn, as well as the consumer-focused Design Days Dubai fair next month. Knight officially starts on 1 March, just in time for the latter event and Art Dubai, so straight into the high season in Dubai’s art and design calendar.
Knight was formerly embedded in the London design world and helped to develop the city’s reputation as one of the world’s leading design centres over the 17 years since he joined the UK Design Council in 1999. From 2004, when the event was founde,d until 2012 he was Deputy Director of the London Design Festival then became Show Director of Design Trade Events at Media 10, where he headed the vibrant 100% Design and Clerkenwell Design Week events. He will remain as a consultant for the edition of Clerkenwell Design Week in May.

Zammit founded Design Days Dubai in 2011, the first fair of its kind in the region, and is a champion of the Middle East's design scene.The Art Dubai Group did not comment on his future plans.
