Designed by London-based interior design firm Carlisle Design Studio, this alluring villa is a tranquil retreat completed in the summer of 2019. The 20,000 square foot property boasts three bedrooms with contemporary architecture and minimalist interiors.

For the project, the design studio joined hands with a local architect to refine the architectural aesthetic, ensuring that it blends seamlessly with the interiors.

Upon entrance is a geometric, 3D projecting silver travertine wall creating a dramatic backdrop for the self-supporting double helical staircase, which leads to a gallery linking the two floors of the house (which, by the way, feature their own private garden terraces).

“We are especially proud of the metal clad, self-supporting double helical staircase which is minimally treated to ensure the form is the standout feature and the minimalist feature in the kitchen that appears to be two blocks of solid marble that have been cut and pulled apart,” says Matthew Carlisle, the Creative Director of Carlisle Design Studio. “The final effect is of that tonnes of natural stone levitating above the ground.”

Emanating a homey vibe through the intricate detailing and soothing grey colour palette, the interiors have been inspired by mid-century furniture and art galleries. “Our philosophy was to create a juxtaposition of drama and excitement in the main entertaining areas but a calm and homely retreat in the living and sleeping areas of the house,” shares Carlisle.

“The client was a dream from the beginning, they were open minded and allowed us to let our imaginations run wild. They are also very knowledgeable and experienced regarding design and architecture so they added their own elements along the way and had clear aspirations for the style of the furnishings."

The décor comprises an eclectic mix of modern antiques and contemporary art works. The rich colours incorporated within the furniture fabrics coupled with the wooden ceilings compliment the neutral palette of the exterior. “The details act as a canvas to the beautiful sinuous curves of mid-century design.”
