Where else, but in Milan will you find haute couture for your home? Take a look at this season’s most exciting concepts from fashion’s leading names
LOUIS VUITTON: The Parisian luxury maison presented a new iteration of its travel inspired furniture and lighting objects for the home. With its dark corridors and grand hallways, the Baroque interiors of Milan’s 19th-century Palazzo Bocconi played the perfect host to the latest works by Patricia Urquiola, Marcel Wanders and André Fu, amongst others. This year, Louis Vuitton also debuted its very first collection of decorative objects called Les Petits Nomades. The small accessories included the Tropicalist Vase by Humberto & Fernando Campana as well as a Rosace tray by Atelier Oi.
HERMÈS: The coveted label revelled in an unabashed love for the arts, displaying a renewed passion for exuberance in product design. Offering a bold colour statement, Hermès presented a nuanced balance of practicality, fantasy and whimsy. Vases and trays that married urbane references with tribal design, furnishings that sought design cues from nature, and a harmonious interplay of materials that is the foundation of the brand, Hermès didn’t hold back on its joyous interpretation of a smart home.
LOEWE: The landmark project that took over a year to develop combined the advanced expertise of the house’s workshops with the work of smaller, but equally knowledgeable, ateliers specialised in a range of craft forms. From exquisite tapestries that extoll the Japanese art of hand-painting and elaborate African patchwork techniques from Senegal, to blankets and totes constructed in the Indian craft of ribbon hand embroidery, the resulting collection encompasses a variety of incomparable craft techniques, all tied to the cultural tradition and unique savoir-faire of their particular area of origin.
BVLGARI: Reiterating its special commitment to avant-garde creation, the Italian label bent the rules of design to present bold immersive statements. Translating key elements of Bvlgari creativity – materials, modularity and colour – into an abstract universe, three icons from the world of design and architecture: Iván Navarro & Courtney Smith, MVRDV and Storagemilano delivered a stunning visual adventure in the form of a glowing labyrinth. At the BVLGARI Hotel, a mirror cube reinvented the rules of the selfie game, generating instant GIFs with iconic brand geometries providing hypnotic backdrops.
BOTTEGA VENETA: Tomas Maier’s latest home collection for the storied label preserves Bottega Veneta’s long-standing ideals of craftsmanship, layering their distinct taste for texture, design and functionality with playful new finishes and a brighter, more colorful palette. From applying lost-wax casting techniques to create bronze table lamps with an exquisitely tactile intrecciato texture, and re-inventing classics for a new generation, to embracing an unexpected palette of dusty pinks, artichoke greens and dove greys, this collection is a masterclass in the creative evolution of an iconic brand.
