Did you ever think you would collaborate with VS?
Not at all. Growing up I never dreamt that I would collaborate with Victoria’s Secret. I think some of the best collaborations come somewhat out of the blue, but there’s a synergy between brands and what you celebrate as a brand and that’s what happened with Victoria’s Secret. I like that I didn’t plan it. It came at the right moment – just after our 10 year celebration!
How did the collaboration come to fruition?
Sophia Neophitou, who is a very good friend of mine, called me and said she had a very interesting opportunity and want to see if I would ever consider collaborating with Victoria’s Secret. Most of the decisions I make are usually based on instinct so, I felt positively about it immediately. My thinking was that it would be so interesting to speak to a completely different demographic, challenge myself creatively and also come together with a brand that celebrates women. It just felt like it was the right time. I then met with the Victoria’s Secret team, there was a synergy there and I felt we could do something meaningful.
What was the inspiration behind the collection?
I knew I wanted it to be bold, playful and fun and for women to feel comfortable and confident in the clothes. Ultimately it was all about colour, about pattern and about the intimate relationship a woman has with her underwear. It’s about self-expression through colourful and florals. I believe print is something that really allows you to stand out.
What is your favourite piece from the collection?
It’s so difficult to say. I love the parachute wings, which was our take on the Victoria’s Secret angel wings. But, in terms of the collection itself, I love it all. I think the fact you can mix and match different pieces is great. I love all the bralets. I f I absolutely had to choose, I’d say my favourite piece is the underwire heart top.
Was it a conscience decision for the pieces to work in the gym?
I think girls and women dress for comfort nowadays. The premise of the entire collection was about creating pieces that become second skin. If it’s the right material, it feels perfect on your body and you feel confident in it, then it’s great to be able to wear the pieces wherever– in or out of the gym. It’s about allowing women their own take on the collection so that they are able to style it the way they want.
