The beachside enclave that Hollywood superstar Chris Hemsworth has chosen as his Australian base is next-level thanks to its spectacular beaches and relaxed coastal vibe.

Elements of Byron is one of the jewels in the northern NSW region’s crown. Best described as a tranquil, refined haven on Belongil Bay beach, the resort is positioned on the outskirts of Byron town, about 10 minutes drive from the city centre. It extends across 50 acres of luscious rainforest that connects it with picturesque tea tree creeks, lakes and ponds.

With 203 rooms to call its own - 99 of these new two-bedroom, two-bathroom rainforest villas - Elements of Byron is a luxurious oasis with facilities that inspire relaxation and cosy comfort. It’s the perfect year-round hideaway in one of the most attractive destinations Australia has to offer.

Whether you’re undertaking a road trip up the east coast from New South Wales to Queensland or have your heart set on a couple of days of elevated luxury for that much-needed injection of romance, a nature-filled family holiday, or a group vacation, the spacious villas exude modern appeal with  each of the eight categories featuring timber decks, inbuilt fireplaces and luxurious soaking areas.

I’m staying in a Botanic Villa at the back of the resort, a five-minute walk from the main entrance and slightly longer to the beach, with its own parking. I’m impressed by the spacious fully-functional kitchen and hidden laundry, the generous lounge room with L-shaped sofa and the enclosed dining area with inbuilt fireplace.

The design of the 50-square-metre villa leans toward understated chic. The bedroom and bathroom are plenty comfortable and the separate soaking room a cool addition to the layout.

Given it is part of a gated-style complex, guests are required to use their villa keys to access each zone, including the 850,000-litre infinity lagoon pool, tennis court, indoor gym, adult’s-only sanctuary with its 20 individual poolside cabanas, the swim-up bar where you can enjoy a freshly pressed juice, and the Botanica Beach Club that overlooks beautiful Belongil Bay and affords beachgoers sweeping views of the world-famous Byron Bay Lighthouse and Cape Byron not too far off in the distance.

In keeping with the growing regional ethos around eco-friendly establishments, Elements is all about sustainability and has been designed to minimise energy and water consumption across the property. While mostly a structural consideration, conservation of mind and body is also part of the focus. Guests are able to immerse themselves in a range of activities, including daily yoga and meditation sessions, horse-riding and surfing, guided nature tours or they can slow things right down and opt for a pampering session at the elaborate on-site Osprey Spa. Here you can immerse yourself in popular treatments like the two-hour Oceanic De-stress ritual Dhs695 and Aromatherapy Relaxation one-hour massage Dhs360.

It’s comforting to know that at the end of a long day spent any way you like, there are three choices when it comes to satisfying the appetite. Enjoy a beverage and some light snacks at the pool bar, call for a delivery to your room like I did (the sushi was delicious), book a table at the cosy Azure Bar and Grill where entrees like Oyster mushroom risotto, truffle, porcini start from Dhs47. Expect a fine-dining set-up all day with that comfortable stay-a-while feel we all yearn for when we’re on vacation. Breakfast (and lunch) is served here too, and while it is a reasonably small affair, guests can expect a spread of fresh hot and cold offerings, creamy barista-made coffees and fresh juices.

Elements of Byron

Elements of Byron offers guests plenty to do - or more to the point, not do here. Part of the appeal is that while set on a considerable site it encourages discovery by foot and can be everything to everyone whatever your taste. There are several spaces for functions and meetings too, and when it’s time to head out and explore the popular coastal surrounds you can do so by taking a short stroll from the lobby to the North Beach Station - a stop for the world’s first solar-powered train by the Byron Bay Railroad Company - that connects with the station in the Byron CBD.

The verdict: Ideal for those seeking barefoot luxury by the beach, who knows you might be lucky enough to rub shoulders with Hemsworth during your stay.
