The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby boy at 11.01am, Kensington Palace has announced. Kate and William’s third child is a healthy 8lbs 7oz, and both mother and baby are said to be doing well.

The palace followed up with a second tweet saying: “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.”

Just hours before the announcement, pictures were circulating showing crows of reporters waiting outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital, ready to report the news. The official countdown to the royal baby’s arrival started this morning, when news broke that Kate was in the early stages of labour.

The new baby will the couple’s third child, following Prince George (4) and Princess Charlotte (2).
