
HRH Princess Haya Says “Peace Needs To Be Fought For” At UN Meeting
The UAE royal gave a passionate speech at the World Food Programme board meeting in Rome
Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein attended the executive board meeting for the World Food Programme on Monday and gave a passionate speech on fighting for peace.
“As your UN Messenger of Peace, I feel unequivocally that today my obligation is to demand that we recognise that peace needs to be fought for… and that now is the time to fight,” she said. “[…] perhaps the best way to fight is to give people something to live for.”
The UAE royal was invited to speak during the board meeting at the World Food Programme’s headquarters in Rome, Italy.
She posted pictures of the meeting on her Instagram page, along with a small section of her speech. The posts have attracted thousands of comments from supporters. One user said: “Thank you @hrhprincesshaya for being a leader for peace and positive change. #strengthofwomen.” Another commented that “working for peace on our Earth is the most important need.”
Princess Haya has gained a huge amount of respect for her humanitarian work over the years which, along with being the UN messenger of peace, sees her act as chairperson of international humanitarian city.
