Hosted by Sawtouna, the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Dream Ball will be held on Thursday 23 January, 2020 at Emirates Palace, in support of the UNHCR‘s initiative in Lebanon to increase access to primary healthcare for Syrian refugees. This includes preventive and curative consultations, vaccines, essential medication for acute disorders & chronic illnesses, and mental health services. The 2020 edition of the Abu Dhabi Dream Ball is presented by Etihad Airways.
The Globe, a print of a photograph taken by Emirati artist Lamya Gargash is being donated to the benevolent gala to help raise funds yo the UNHCR's intiative. The photograph is part of the artist's 2015 series entitled Documentation of Clubs, which was commissioned by the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism. The image was taken at the Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi and speaks of the history of a bygone era. According to Gargash, “The Globe itself signifies the passing of time and a portal into the past.”
Due to the desolate landscape of the building itself, she said the globe demanded attention, and said that “in its solitude lies endless memories and experiences.” Her motivation exists in the idea of taking a moment to witness one’s surroundings, and having an appreciation for the details hidden in the seemingly mundane.
Gargash chose The Globe for the Abu Dhabi Dream Ball as it is a part of Abu Dhabi’s history and so naturally, was fitting to the cause.
Gargash was the first Emirati artist to represent the United Arab Emirates at the nation’s first participation at the 53rd Venice Biennial in 2009. Gargash has won a handful of awards for her work in film and photography, and her pieces have been showcased at numerous galleries and exhibitions around the world.
Tickets and tables to the 2020 Abu Dhabi Dream Ball are available for purchase via 800 Tickets. All proceeds from ticket and table sales will be directed towards the UNHCR's efforts in Lebanon.
