The news was announced the day before the UAE’s 47th National Day

On the eve of the country's 47th National Day celebrations, HRH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai and the Dubai Media Office took to social media to welcome the news that UAE passports are now ranked as the most powerful in the world.

Having ranked on The Passport Index at 27th place just two years ago, it subsequently went up to third place on November 8 before taking over Germany and Singapore, who still hold the spots for second and third.

"This achievement is a true reflection of the legacy of Sheikh Zayed, the Founding Father of the UAE,” says Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in a statement. “It also underscores what can be achieved through positive diplomacy, reflecting the UAE as a confident and engaged force at the global stage."

With this historic achievement, UAE passport holders are now able to gain visa-free entry to 167 countries worldwide, which is 84 percent of the number of countries listed in the index.
