“My personal style is classic with a twist,” Caroline Stanbury begins. “It can be rock chic sometimes, too. I don’t follow any rules, comfort is key.” The 41-year old British socialite and Ladies of London star is no stranger to the spotlight. She has been living in Dubai since 2016 with her financier husband, Cem Habib, and three children, Yasmine, 11, and twins, Zack and Aaron, seven, and she now works as an interior designer on high-end residential and commercial projects, private jets and yachts. Her day-to-day is flooded with affluence. “I’m a jeans and T-shirt girl really, whenever I can, but also high-end luxury.” Her perfectly coiffed mid-length platinum locks tell us that even when she dresses down, it’s always with precision.
Fashion genes run in the family with her mother’s “huge closets” serving as her dressing up box from a very young age. “I remember once trying a pair of gold knee-high boots and a fox fur and it’s gone from there really. I always wanted to be Crystal from Dynasty,” she smiles. Now, Caroline boasts her own epic wardrobe brimming with designer pieces, with “Chanel, Balenciaga, Monse, Valentino and Alexander Wang,” her go-tos. For shoes, it’s usually Aquazzura and Gianvito Rossi – the latter of which she “just bought the whole collection.” Hermès bags are amidst her trophy accessories, “At one count, I had about 40,” she says. “They never go out of date, each season there is a new colour and they last for years and years.” She also keeps a healthy portion of her wardrobe dedicated to “jeans and tees, bodies and easy pieces.”
Amongst the hoards of clothes and accessories there are a few special keepsakes, like her Chanel Bearbrick.“It’s a one of a kind limited edition piece, Diane Kruger gave it to Yasmine so it has sentimental value. As does my new Judith Leiber bag from Dee Hilfiger (Tommy Hilfiger’s wife), and my Dior bear that sat in Harrods’ window that I was given for my birthday.”
On her current wish list is an Alexandre Vauthier dress and “lots of cashmere and silk” from LA brand Sablyn. “I shop all the time, but it’s not about going on a shopping trip; I see an item I like and I buy it preferably online, I like everything to come to me.” She cites “Net-a-Porter, Matches Fashion, Far Fetch and Forward by Else Walker” as her portals of choice. Caroline often shops overseas for the likes of “collagen powders and health stuff,” too.
A firm believer in mantras, if she had to apply one to her style it would be, “push your boundaries, don’t get comfortable and reinvent yourself.” She also notes that it is “confidence” that makes any woman stylish. Her current style icon, is her great friend Diane Kruger. “She’s got a flare for fashion and always looks amazing, just incredible.” Although admitting she probably spends too much money on clothes, it has always helped her achieve her goals. After all, “If you want to get to the top of your game, you’ve got to dress for it.”
