Classic, feminine and simple is how blogger Roxie Nafousi describes her style. The 27-year-old oozes confidence when it comes to fashion, absorbing her style cues from the industry’s finest. “I love Kendall Jenner,” Roxie states. “I love the versatility of her style: she goes from Parisian chic to ’90s supermodel and then ’60s siren. She always looks well put together, glamorous and chic, yet also young, fun and cool with it.” Although her sartorial ideas are prompted by influencers like Kendall, she puts her own unique spin on everything and her day-to-day dress depends entirely on her mood. “If I’m feeling confident I’ll wear something a bit sassy and cool, and if I’m feeling a bit tired and run down, then I’ll go for an oversized jumper and my Chanel espadrilles or Gucci slippers.” Roxie admits she used to struggle with deciding what to wear, “I used to turn the house upside down.” Now, she endeavours to envisage the look she’s trying to achieve and work from that point onwards.
“I never go on a shopping spree. I prefer to slowly add pieces to my wardrobe, if I see something I love that I think will go with lots of outfits then I’ll get it,” she tells us. “Dolce & Gabbana is my favourite brand because its clothes are designed for a feminine, curvy body and I always feel my best in the pieces. They just fit amazingly, and they are also sophisticated and sultry at the same time.” For accessories, Roxie loves Gucci, “the shoes and bags are always on trend and ooze cool.” When it comes to the real jewels of her wardrobe, her most iconic buys include a Balmain jacket, “I bought it when I was 21 and it’s such a beautiful and statement piece. I know it will never go out of style and it makes me feel like, ‘I’ve got this,’ whenever I put it on. It’s a power jacket; Dior pump heels – I have them in every colour, I love a court heel as they are classic, and go with every outfit; and a Chanel pink and white stripe Boy bag (from S/S17). Pink is my favourite colour and this bag just makes me happy.”
Style aside, Roxie is on another more charitable mission to raise awareness about mental health, and she’s using social media as a channel to offer an olive branch, and ear, to her followers. She spends up to an hour a day speaking with people via Instagram and email.
“It’s honestly the best feeling to be able to reach people on such a deep level through my articles and through social media. Social media gets such a bad rep but it is things like this, which make me really see the good in it.” Her goal is to make mental health a “more honest and open conversation, so that people know they are not alone and that there is help out there for everybody,” she tells us. “It is my main passion in life. I want to make the world a happier place, one smile at a time.” A stylish sentiment if ever there was one.
