#StyledByCed: Celebrity Stylist Cedric Haddad On How To Nail Genderless Dressing

From oversized shirts to chunky loafers, stylist to the stars and our monthly columnist shines a spotlight on the top red carpet looks, and fashion moments of the month

Blurring Boundaries

Genderless dressing today is a creative director’s biggest inspiration. Masculine styles in women’s wardrobes are definitely dominating the fashion scene, and it’s becoming common for labels like Gucci, Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, Valentino and Burberry, among others, to use both male and female models on the catwalk. The dichotomy is striking. It ushers in a new era marked by freedom of self-expression. The tricky bit? Mixing feminine garments such as super-high stilettos with a contrasting masculine silhouette like an oversized tailored suit.

The Great Cover Up

Pile on the oversized shirts, tailored blazers, bomber jackets or overcoats to help you stand out. Layers add interest to an ensemble – and are an easy way to put a masculine stamp on a look. Opt for a relaxed silhouette for sophisticated, effortless chic.

On The Lowdown

Lightweight, chic, baggy trousers that don’t reveal the shape of the body make for a more masculine effect. Cargo pants are fashion folk’s latest obsession and suit the trend perfectly. Adding mannish undergarments to peek out from below your waistbrand adds another layer – quite literally. No one does this better than Alexander Wang – check out his styling to get inspired.

Dress Code: Black Tie

From Valentino and Awake to Alexander McQueen and Dolce&Gabbana, all the major fashion houses are accessorising their models with a simple black tie. Whether you’re completing a formal-wear look or jazzing up casual street style, this is one easy-to-add piece that’ll ensure you’re bang on trend.

Crushing It

Chunky loafers, brogues and thick-soled boots are an easy way to perfect the tomboy vibe. They’re incredibly comfortable too, so the only downside is that you’ll never want to take.

The Bold & The Beautiful

This Autumn/Winter sees dainty accents relegated to the back drawer as bold pieces come to the fore. Layered chains at Chanel, collars and chokers at Dior, plus lip rings, ear cuffs and nose rings at Valentino made a big impact. More is more was the motto when it came to accessorising on the runways.
