Dubai Model Launches #Freethepimple Campaign To Fight Acne Stigma
British expat Louisa Northcote has encouraged other women to share selfies
We all know that apps like FaceTune are prevalent behind the scenes of our Instagram feeds, with many people patching over imperfections and smoothing out bumpy skin.
But as famous faces like Huda Kattan and Chrissy Teigan are promoting us all embracing a more honest image of ourselves on social media, it seems that many are keen to make a change.
Louisa Northcote, a 21-year-old Dubai expat who is currently studying at the London College of Fashion, is keen to lead that change. After posting a picture of her make-up free skin on social media with the hashtag #freethepimple, she received an outpouring of support from other people who struggled with skin issues.
Earlier this year she posted a skin update on Instagram, writing:
This year for me is all about confidence and embracing what I have. 2017 was a challenging year for me especially when it came to my skin however it was also amazing because I found confidence to post a picture of it on social media and help show other people they are not alone, they shouldn’t suffer in silence and that they are still beautiful! Acne still seems to be something that doesn’t get spoken about enough – especially in the media and fashion industry, therefore this year I want to try and bring more awareness of it and be even more open with my suffering of it to try and help even one person embrace it and feel beautiful!

No one is perfect – Left is me as a teenager. I struggled with acne for many years as a young girl, not only was it isolated to just my face but it affected my chest and back. This severely affected my self esteem and I had to stop modelling as a result.
I’m posting this to hopefully help those out there suffering with acne or anyone worrying about the way they look because when I was young I wish someone would have told me that your looks don’t define you and even the “models” you see on advertisements aren’t perfect.
We support anything that makes people feel more confident in their own skin.
