Sam McKnight Announces Range Of Hair Products
The industry veteran teased the first of four products backstage at London Fashion Week
After five decades in fashion, the hair supremo Sam McKnight is launching his own product line.
The range, Hair by Sam McKnight, will be on sale at Liberty London in April, and will consist of four products, the first of which, Modern Hairspray, was debuted at London Fashion Week this weekend.
He describes the product as light, airy and user-friendly, and says it has been years in the making. “I’ve been using hairspray for years and it is beginning to make a resurgence” he told us backstage at the Michael Halpern show. “I can use this to get volume, shine and finish, and it’s a dry finish so I don’t feel like I’m damaging the hair when running irons through it.”

McKnight – whose exhibition at Somerset House went by the same name and featured his work over the years for Chanel, Vivienne Westwood and material from his days of working with Princess Diana – will also debut a follow-up line of products later this year.
He left no stone unturned in the creation of his ideal hairspray, even enlisting the help of his friend Lyn Harris (the founder of the perfume brand Miller Harris) to help him formulate a fragrance. McKnight deems its scent “fresh and woody – because it had always rained before she came over!”
The details of the second range of products are strictly under wraps for now, but McKnight promises that they will be suitable even for the most amateur users. “If I got stuck on a desert island… well, I probably wouldn’t be using hairspray,” quips McKnight. “But if I had only one product, my new hairspray and some pins would get me out of any situation.”
