New York Fashion Week isn’t just about the clothes. Here, we look at some of the best beauty moments on the S/S20 runways.
Khaite
Emerging powerhouse, Khaite, has cemented itself as a fashionistas hero brand with ease, and now it’s time to take note of their beauty cues also. Dewy skin, barely-there-blush, nude lips and slicked back hair are perfectly juxtaposed by OTT rhinestone head-pieces. We’re wearing it with a white shirt dress and barely-there stilettos for our next ladies night outing.
Ian Brown
Avoid looking like you accidently got caught in the Middle Eastern humidity by pairing wet hair with a more sophisticated take on grunge-inducing kohl lined eyes and a blush pink lip. Side/Fashion note: We are SO happy to see the Stone Roses-esque/bad hair day saviour bucket hat hasn’t gone anywhere – Viva la Vida Ian Brown!
Area
The unashamedly extravagant Area set itself an impossibly high bar after AW/19’s iced-out headpiece hysteria, yet remarkably outdid itself. Instead of using rhinestones to accentuate the make-up, the arts and crafts favourite became the central focus of the runway beauty. Crystal fanned eyebrows and diamante teardrops in hues of yellow, pink and lilac framed tawny lids and natural freckles. Impossibly fabulous? Absolutely. One to try outside of the Glastonbury fields? We’ll leave that to your discretion…
Jonathan Cohen
The ever uber-feminine Cohen took an edgier approach to both his clothes and beauty this season. Touches of neon from both the inner and outer corner of the eyes mirrored the bright, Mexican-inspired clothes of the designer’s heritage. The bold, smudgy, Crayola hues of the eyes were balanced in beautiful harmony by slick hair and berry bitten lips.
Helmut Lang
Jonathan Cohen wasn’t the only show to exhibit brightly hued feline-flicks. Helmut Lang showcased highlighter shades of winged eyeliner that resembled, well, actual wings. While tones of brown and burnt umber replaced the more abrasive shades in places, mascara was pleasantly scarce, giving the face a clean finish and the eye-makeup room to sing.
Brandon Maxwell
Brandon Maxwell SS/20 saw a departure from the usual gowns of evening glamour and an introduction to something a little more casual – the beauty, however, did not. A rare sighting of contoured cheeks made a (surprisingly) pleasant appearance, with brow bones being further defined by smoky sweeps of soft brown powder. Brushed up brows and pillow-soft nude lips ensured the beauty avoided looking too close to a circa 2012 Kardashian.
