Keep your skin hydrated and treated all summer long

With the beauty world's ever-changing trends, products and formulas, it often proves tricky to keep up with everything. But there’s one thing every Middle Eastern-based woman knows to be true: Moisture-boosting serums are essential - especially in an Arabian summer.

Often the stealth secret in a skin-care regimen, a potent serum can be a game-changer, so we caught up with Marie-Laure Simonin Braun, CEO of luxury skincare brand Payot, which has finally launched in the UAE, to talk all things serum...

What is a serum?
A serum is lightweight and great for soaking into skin for deep hydration. It has a high concentration of potent ingredients, which are great for targeting specific skincare concerns such as wrinkles or dark spots without clogging pores.

What are the main ingredients used in serums?
Most contain Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles, plus Vitamin C for its antioxidant and rejuvenating properties.

When is the best time to apply serum?
Apply to skin after cleansing and toning but before moisturiser. This can be done morning or evening and will leave you with a fresh, dewy complexion.

How should you apply a serum?
You can apply serums morning and night on the face, neck and décolleté to cleansed and toned skin. You should warm a small amount of product between your hands and apply using upward pressure movements from the centre of the face towards the outside edge, avoiding the eye area.

Which serums are best suited to which skin types?
It’s important to look at the ingredients when choosing a serum – the higher concentration of ingredients the better. If you have oily skin you should choose a serum with Salicylic acid, for dry complexions look for formulas that incorporate ingredients such as hyaluronic acid that will moisturise, and for aging, dull, or combination skin, you will benefit from serums with Vitamin C.

Any other secret tips?
To optimise the effectiveness of your serum, use pressure movements when applying the product with your fingertips to stimulate microcirculation and cellular regeneration and to promote an even, radiant complexion.

Payot is now available in the UAE via noon.com and in Bin Sina pharmacies.
