7 Of The Best Straighteners For Thick Hair
Bazaar Arabia shares a few of our favourite hot tools that actually work when it comes to taming frizz-prone hair…
On the hunt for the best hair straighteners for thick locks? Bazaar Arabia’s Anahita Ghai – who has been blessed with thick tresses – shares a few of our favourite hair tools here…
Have thick hair and struggle with finding the perfect straightener that will smooth your tresses in a pinch? Trust me; I have the exact same issue. Looking for the ideal hot tool can be challenging, especially when influencers constantly post about popular products like the Dyson Airwrap or the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer; it can be extremely confusing to determine what will actually work.
Living in a hot climate like Dubai and having thick hair is quite the challenge, especially when I’m getting ready in the morning. From the intense humidity to the high temperatures, you can pretty much expect lots of frizz and unruly strands. But don’t worry, I have you covered; here, I’ve curated a list of seven of the best straighteners for thick hair. You can thank me later.
Best Hair Straighteners For Thick Locks
Dyson Corrale
If you have hair like mine and have done lots of research, you would have probably heard wonders about all the amazing benefits of using the Dyson Airwrap. However, to be completely honest with you, while the Airwrap has its pros (our Editor in Chief, Olivia Phillips, is a fan), it truly isn’t the best solution to a smooth finish; recently, I have been using the Dyson Corrale, which has changed my hair game completely.
Here are some pros and cons of the Dyson Corrale:
Pros:
- Super effective on thick hair
- Heats up quickly
- Has a lower temperature option, good for hair health
- Long-lasting, the texture stayed for around 15 hours
- Cordless
Cons:
- You need to go over the strands a few times to get that perfect straight look
- Doesn’t have wide plates, you need to section your hair in parts to get the real effect
I would recommend using this after drying your hair thoroughly and then finishing your look with a serum. My go-to product is the Gisou By Negin Mirsalehi Honey Infused Hair Oil.

GHD MAX
This product was highly recommended to me by various friends and family, so I had to give it a try. GHD is known to sell an array of high-quality products and have a positive brand image, but is it worth the hype? Here are some pros and cons of the GHD MAX straightener…
Pros:
- Has a range of temperatures to choose from, avoiding any extreme heat
- Wide plate design that is super effective for long hair strands
- Heats up quickly for efficient styling
- Gives you a glossy finish and removes extra frizz
Cons:
- Results aren’t long-lasting
- I noticed more hair fall after using this product a couple of times
Overall a great product. But again, different products work differently on people.

Cloud Nine Wide Iron
Another recommendation from a close friend was the Cloud Nine Wide Iron Straightener. I had heard lots of mixed reviews for this particular straightener and definitely wanted to give it a shot…
Pros:
- Excellent for handling frizzy hair
- Wide Plate design, can capture more strands in one shot
- Long-lasting for sure, I was impressed with the longevity
Cons:
- Doesn’t have a heat protection option, concerning for hair health
- Takes time to heat up
- You need to go over your locks multiple times for the true effect to kick in, can be time consuming
But overall, I was quite impressed with the product; the wide plate design is definitely the top attribute.

T3 Lucea Flat Iron
Manufactured in the US, the T3 Lucea Flat Iron has been causing quite the buzz online, so of course I had to try it. And here’s what I think:
Pros:
- Sleek and stylish design, one of my favourites from all of them
- Has a range of temperature options
- Can easily do multiple styles like beach waves or curls
- Adjusts to your hair type: thick, thin, curly, wavy, etc.
- Offers various videos to help understand the best setting for your hair type
Cons:
- Isn’t long-lasting, the smooth look only stayed for about 6 hours
- Takes longer to style, need to go over the strands at least 3 times for the real effect
- Has a narrow plate design, so you will need to section your hair first
The best part of this product was definitely the technology and the multiple different options to choose from. I was impressed with how many different things you could do with this flat iron. Overall, a great product.

Hot Tools Titanium 1″ Digital Salon Flat Iron
Fun fact, I had seen this product in an advertisement while I was on my trip to London and had heard a lot of mixed reviews on this flat iron. However, Hot Tools is known to have a good range of medium to high-quality products, and while this brand is still not as widely known, I wanted to test the straightener out to see how effective it is for thick frizz-prone hair. So, here’s what I think:
Pros:
- I love the LCD digital features
- Has multiple colour options
- It has a universal plug option- super convenient when travelling
- Heats up pretty quickly
- It gives your hair an instant smooth texture
Cons:
- It isn’t as long-lasting; after a full day of work, I noticed my frizz coming back
- I noticed my hair quality had gone down after using this straightener, more hair fall and dullness over time
This product is a good choice if you’re looking for something basic, easy to travel with, and does the job. It works better for shorter intervals and has an array of fun colours to choose from.

L’Oréal Professionnel Steampod 3.0 Professional Styler
One of my favourite beauty companies of all time has to be L’Oréal. From their shampoo to their concealer, I have practically been a fan of the brand since the start. So it was pretty much obvious I was going to give their best-selling straightener a try. Here are my thoughts…
Pros:
- It uses a high-pressure steam formula that’s way better for your hair health
- Light technology that lets you know when the straightener has heated up
- The product gives your locks a glossy finish
Cons:
- Has only three temperatures to choose from: – 180C, 200C or 210C
- It doesn’t have a cordless option
- Instructions say to use lime-free demineralised water in the device, which is definitely a hassle
If you’re someone like me, then you would prefer choosing a product that is simple to use and is effective for travelling. While I absolutely loved the results this product gave me, I felt it wasn’t the easiest straightener to set up. But overall, a great one for thick hair.

EIDEAL DiamonSilk Classic Straightener
This was a product highly recommended to me so it was no question I had to try it. Founded by Haysam Eid, EIDEAL has a series of products that suit all kinds of hair like curlers, dryers, clippers etc. I tried the most popular flat iron and here are my thoughts…
Pros
- Helps Reduce Frizz
- Heats up quickly
- The product is extremely sleek and stylish
Cons
- Need to go over the locks several times for for your hair to be straight
- Can’t use for travel to certain countries due to the change in voltage
Overall, I like the EIDEAL and would recommend it to those seeking something easy to use and of top quality.
