Eyebrow Lamination: Everything You Need To Know About The Treatment That Gives You Naturally Fluffy Brows

From a breakdown of the process to the aftercare, senior brow artist Caroline Mills at Brau answers all your questions about the latest beauty craze

Craving a fuller, fiercer every day brow that foregoes spending hours in front of the mirror, penciling and gelling tiny hairs into place?

Brow lamination – nicknamed “permanent soap brows” –  is the latest beauty craze that offers an easy fix to effortlessly shaping your brow hairs into place, creating a full look sans make-up. With minimal maintenance and flawless results, the process can last up to six weeks – meaning it is 100% worth all the buzz it’s been receiving lately within the beauty community.

But what exactly happens during the process? How is it different from permanent make-up? Bazaar caught up with Caroline Mills, a senior brow artist at Brau, as she answers all our questions about the popular alternative to microblading.

First of All… What is An Eyebrow Lamination?

Promising “I Woke Up Like This” eyebrows, brow lamination is a semi-permanent microblading alternative where brows are delicately manipulated and redirected upwards into a specific style and fixated to stay in place for up to 6 weeks. Originating in Russia and quickly surging in popularity, the treatment involves straightening the brow hairs using a chemical solution to provide a fuller eyebrow in minutes, suitable for even the most unruly of hairs. To sum it up, think of it as a lash lift, or a perm, for your eyebrows.

No matter what your brow concerns are — gaps, thinning, overplucking or just your typical unruliness — brow lamination is a go-to microblading alternative that will give you the appearance of thicker, bolder brows à la Cara Delevingne. Another perk of the treatment? It requires no tattooing and is completely painless.

Eyebrow Lamination vs Microblading: What’s The Difference?

According to Caroline at Brau, one of Dubai’s leading brow studios, the two beauty treatments (although they both focus on the eyebrows) are very different.

“While microblading is a semi-permanent make up treatment lasting up to 12 months, brow lamination works with your natural brow hair to tint, straighten and set the brow hair in the desired direction, providing a fluffier and denser brow. While microblading involves depositing pigment into the epidermis layer of the brow skin, using an ultra-fine blade to create fine hair strokes, brow lamination gives a similar look but with no tattooing involved,” notes Caroline.

Everything You Need To Know About The Eyebrow Lamination Process…

Brow lamination takes approximately 45 minutes, as it fixates the brow shape and style in a six-step process. Each treatment begins with a consultation by a brow stylist to understand the client’s concerns and goals.

“We begin the brow lamination process by painting a lifting cream onto the brow to break down the hair bonds, allowing us to straighten the brow hair in the desired direction. Next, the eyebrow hairs are brushed into place and a neutralizer is applied to set your newly moulded brows in their vertical position,” says Caroline.

To achieve the desired look, a custom-blended tint is applied to add color and make the brows look fuller. Several grooming techniques such as waxing and tweezing can be used to shape brows into perfection, meaning everything from a sharp style to a bushier, bolder boy brow can be achieved. To finish off the brow lamination treatment, a hydrating oil is applied to replenish and remoisturise the eyebrow hairs.

And The Result?

Immediately after the process, brow lamination creates a slicked-up, glossy (i.e. “laminated”) look similar to freshly microbladed brows or soap brows.

Whether you later prefer to style them wet or dry, the final result of brow lamination is always natural, feathery and selfie-ready. In addition to their newfound fullness, the eyebrow hairs also become easier to manage and to style, a perk that will only increase the more you laminate your brows.

Who Is Best Suited For An Eyebrow Lamination?

Anyone looking to improve their natural brows is a great candidate – especially if you are aiming for a voluminous, texturized look. While brow lamination is a go-to treatment for both thinner and thicker brows, it is especially effective on coarse and bushy eyebrow hair that can be troublesome to tame.

“Brow lamination is a safe and non-invasive process that does not require any needling, making it suitable for all brow-and skin types. If you are allergy-prone or have very sensitive skin, consult your brow stylist at the beginning of your appointment for a patch test to avoid any potential reactions,” says Caroline.

Eyebrow Lamination Aftercare

Post-treatment, keep your newly laminated brows completely dry for a period of 24 hours to allow them to properly set. Avoid showering, sweating, makeup or skin care products. After the 24-hour period, you’re free to treat and style your brows as you normally would.

“We recommend keeping the brows nourished and moisturized with a hydrating oil and to brush them into place every morning with a spoolie brush. For best results, allow a 6-week period between brow lamination treatments,” notes Caroline.

No matter your desired look, brow lamination is a true game-changer- and a must-try for anyone who’s been pining for bigger, better brows.
