When it comes to creating iconic wedding looks, there is one queen of make-up who always delivers. Here, Bazaar Bride Editor, Nina Catt catches up with Charlotte Tilbury to talk tips, tricks and Amal Clooney’s amazing eyes…
What’s the number one piece of beauty advice you have for brides on their wedding day?
My best piece of advice when it comes to bridal beauty is the importance of staying true to your look. Your wedding day is the time to enhance your natural beauty, you want to feel like the most beautiful, radiant, confident version of yourself. Be careful of experimenting with new, bold colours. Whenever I create make-up magic for brides, I always meet with them first so we can discuss what look they want to embody on the day, and how I can make them feel confident.
Please tell us about your own bridal make-up look?
On my wedding day, I wore my Bella Sofia Luxury Palette. The molten bronzes, reddish-browns and coppery tones always make my green eyes pop, and has been my go-to look for years. I paired this with my award-winning Pillow Talk lipstick.

What’s your top tip for long-lasting lip colour?
My top tip for brides to enhance the longevity of any lipstick on their special day is to try my Lip Cheat lip liner. The wax and oil-rich formula works beautifully as a stencil, ensuring lip colour lasts from the vows to the dancefloor. Plus, you can create the effect of fuller, wider-looking lips.
What classic bridal beauty trend will never go out of fashion?
Soft, neutral tones are always on-trend and never date. Shades like chocolate, bronze and copper suit all complexion and eye colour combinations for a universally flattering look.
How important is skincare in the run-up to special events?
I always say you can’t have a beautiful painting without a beautiful canvas. A good skincare routine is so important so you’ll have the most perfect, glowing skin on the day.
You famously created Amal Clooney’s wedding day beauty look. Can you give us a detailed rundown on the products you used?
Creating my incredible friend, Amal’s big day beauty look was such a special moment. I love working with Amal, she is absolutely beautiful, with chic, timeless and understated style. She has the perfect face for make-up, too — almond-shaped eyes, thick lashes, and pillowy, rose-hued lips. As a naturally beautiful bride, I went for a very fresh, barely-there look on the skin and my Matte Revolution lipstick in Amazing Grace on the lips. I defined and enhanced Amal’s alluring eyes with soft taupes and chocolate hues from my Luxury Palette in The Sophisticate. I then curled her gorgeous lashes and applied my Full Fat Lashes mascara for added length, volume and definition. For a soft contour, I used my Filmstar Bronze & Glow to enhance and define her already beautiful facial framework. Finally, I added a flush of colour to her cheeks with my Cheek to Chic blusher in Love Glow, for a soft and pretty look.

What is your first beauty memory?
I will always remember watching my incredibly glamourous mother, with her perfectly painted red nails applying her red lipstick. She would never leave the house without make-up on. The first time I discovered make-up for myself was when I wore mascara for the first time. I was 13-years-old and I felt instantly more empowered, more confident and more magic. Since then, I have been so passionate about sharing my love of make-up and skincare.
What’s next for your brand? Please share a secret…
I am incredibly excited about what’s to come in my skincare collections for 2020. I’ve been working closely with laboratories and dermatologists and I have developed a supercharged, crystal-infused Resurrection Leaf + Magic Replexium serum for glowing, hydrated, youthful-looking skin. It’s skincare science in a bottle — coming soon.
Can we expect a dedicated bridal make-up collection anytime soon?
Watch this space, darlings!
