Royals in Couture: The 6 Best High Fashion Moments
These riveting royal ensembles will go down in history as some of the most memorable couture looks of all time
Throughout history and across the globe, royal figures have left us in awe of their elegance and grace. Appearing at lavish balls, royal weddings and exclusive events, they often turn to couture designers to craft one-of-a-kind pieces for pivotal moments in the public eye.
From Sheikha Moza bint Nasser of Qatar in Chanel to Queen Rania’s keen eye for artisanal designs, here are six of the most memorable fashion moments from royals in couture.
HM Queen Rania In Elie Saab
Queen Rania is known for her love of regional designers. At her son, Crown Prince AlHussein of Jordan’s, wedding to Princess Rajwa last year Her Majesty donned a regal creation by Lebanese designer Elie Saab. The gold and beige number from the house’s S/S 2023 Haute Couture collection featured a cascading cape, a high neckline, and long sleeves with intricate embroidery and beadwork. She completed the look with a deep maroon sash and delicate tiara.

Not long after the wedding festivities, Her Highness attended the King Hussein Cancer Foundation’s Hope Gala fundraiser in Amman, Jordan. For the event, she once again opted for a gown from Elie Saab’s S/S 2023 Haute Couture collection. The blue gown was beaded from head to toe, featuring a high neckline and elegant capped sleeves.

HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al-Missned in Chanel Haute Couture
With a keen eye for style and attention to detail, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser of Qatar has long been a fan of the French luxury fashion house.
In 2017, Her Highness visited a Tunisian souk wearing a dress from Chanel’s S/S 2016 Haute Couture collection. The neutral tweed look featured a pencil skirt and fringe details on the top, which she paired with a beige headscarf, matching heels, and oversized sunglasses.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex In Dior
In 2018, the Duchess Of Sussex looked every bit a natural royal when she attended Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in a Dior look from the brand’s S/S 2016 Haute Couture collection. Her outfit consisted of a knee-length ivory coat which she belted at the waist and accessorised with a pair of white gloves and a wide-brimmed hat, also by Dior.

Honourable Mentions…
While these looks don’t technically hail from Haute Collections, they certainly deserve an honourable mention for their exquisite design and resounding cultural impact.
Grace Kelly in Givenchy
Certainly one of the most influential muses of haute couture designers, Grace Kelly’s impeccable style was a seamless blend of regal elegance and Hollywood grandeur. The Princess of Monaco had an affinity for statement-making ensembles, and in 1961, she turned heads in an iconic couture creation by Givenchy. The Princess donned a green wool dress and matching coat by the French fashion house when visiting the White House with her husband Prince Rainier, and then wore it again on a trip to Ireland that same year.

Princess Diana in Dior
During a surprise public appearance at the Met Gala in 1996, Princess Diana stunned the world in sensuous slip dress by the house of Dior. Designed by John Galliano for his first collection as creative director, the silk, navy number was adorned with black lace trimmings. The look was accessorised with opulent pearls, sapphire jewels and diamonds, imparting it with a regal flair.
