The Art Escape: Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown

Launching the brand’s first ever hotel in the GCC last month, each room at Hotel Indigo is inspired by the rich heritage of the Dubai Creek and designed to emanate a sense of oneness with the surroundings

Hotel Indigo has supported local creatives through close collaboration with the Alserkal Cultural Foundation, Tashkeel and XVA Gallery. Boasting over 200 pieces of art exclusively created by local artists, the art-minded hotel is fuelled by culture and diversity. The intricately designed carpet on the lobby floor for instance, has been created in partnership with the Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative.

The spa-inspired mother-of-pearl bathrooms pay homage to the UAE’s rich and proud heritage of pearl diving, while vibrant Moroso designer furniture adds a contemporary touch to the interiors. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the Dubai Canal and the Dubai Skyline. Striking works of art are showcased throughout the hotel, including at the four food outlets on various floors.

Works by self-taught Emirati artist Badr Abbas adorn the corridor of the 10th floor. The artist is known to express himself through his unique interpretation of simplified modern cubism.

A boat-style chair by multidisciplinary artist Rand Abdul Jabbar of Tashkeel is placed in the lobby seating area. The furniture is entirely handmade, highlighting the technical qualities of traditional dhows, using tools and materials sourced directly from the Al Jaddaf dhow-building yard in Dubai.

Over at the 13th floor and in the Satwa-inspired Off The Wall, guests will find the abstract paintings of Baseem Rayyes, the Syrian artist renowned for his vibrant use of colour. Off The Wall also features an artistic ceiling in the shape of sound waves, exposed brick walls and street graffiti.

Located on the ground floor, concept store Bakala Jooos is surrounded by various artworks including a hand-painted feature wall, woven tapestry rugs and a sofa designed by Dubai-based Fadi Sarieddine Design Studio.

The multidisciplinary atelier creates pieces where the materials are taken out of their usual context and placed in new environments, giving them a new meaning and purpose.

Social eatery Open Sesame, a modern take on Emirati heritage, features souk-inspired stalls and embroidered abaya patterns at the entrance. The poolside bar and lounge, Orange Feels, located on the second floor, overlooks the infinity pool with Bali-inspired hanging chairs.

To celebrate the launch, Hotel Indigo has announced three new offers available to both residents and tourists in the UAE. For booking information, visit their website or call +97142102222
