Bloomingdale’s Home In Dubai Mall Presents Adriana Hoyos Furnishings
We speak with the founder on her design inspirations and sustainable approach to timeless homeware
Bloomingdale’s Home in Dubai Mall has just launched family-owned luxury interior design brand Adriana Hoyos Furnishings, boasting Latin American flair and joie de vivre. With headquarters in Miami, this is the first time the brand’s collection is being presented in Dubai. Designing, manufacturing and exporting furniture for 25 years, the eponymous brand was founded in 1994 by furniture designer Adriana Hoyos. “I feel that my brand is universal,” says Hoyos.
Promoting sustainable living, the furniture pieces are primarily made from raw materials, particularly Seike Wood that is harvested in Ecuador, South America. “Seike is quite thick so it increases the quality of the furniture,” says Hoyos. “We are very conscious about preserving nature so for example, we use lacquer that is pollutant-free and water-based. Most of our finishing’s are Italian and we use oak veneers from France as well as Seike veneer.”

Another important element of the furniture is the fabrics, for which Hoyos visits Italy yearly and designs her own custom fabrics, focusing on the colour and prints. “I call them smart fabrics,” she smiles. “They are homey and feel very soft, velvety and linen-like but they’re high performance and high-technology fabrics, meaning you can use and abuse the furniture and it will stay undamaged.”
Adriana Hoyos Furnishings launches a new collection every two years and the collection in Dubai, entitled the Rumba Collection, is the 11th. The word stems from the Spanish translation of ‘celebration’, representing the joy and narratives surrounding bespoke furniture pieces. “Rumba is inspired by my Latin-American roots – the culture, the dance, music, drums, the celebration,” expresses Hoyos.
