Bebe Rexha Was Hit in The Face With A Phone While Performing in New York
Her mother revealed she had to get three stitches after a fan tossed their mobile at the award-winning singer-songwriter
As an aging Millennial, I have yet to understand the practice of tossing one’s mobile phone on stage during a concert, in hopes that the performer will pick it up and take a selfie, but this kind of behavior seems to be more than acceptable for Gen-Z fans.
Having recently attended the third MDLBeast festival in Riyadh, I witnessed this practice firsthand during Dutch-Moroccan DJ R3HAB’s set. Audience members who were in proximity of the stage would lob their phones at the stage; R3HAB picked them up, one by one, and took selfies of himself with the crowds in the background before gently tossing it back to the fan. Seems a bit hazardous, I thought at the time.
Unfortunately, Bebe Rexha found out just hours ago how dangerous this kind of behavior can be if someone misses…
Bebe Rexha Was Hit in The Face With A Phone
While performing in New York at The Rooftop at Pier 17, the 25-year-old American singer and songwriter was hit in the head with an audience member’s mobile phone, causing her to collapse to the stage in pain.
Videos quickly began circulating on Twitter, showing the phone soaring through the air, before it made contact with the upper left part of her forehead; after being hit, Bebe then leans forward in pain as her team rushes to the stage to escort her off.

The incident happened towards the end of her set, as she was saying her goodbyes to the audience.
Another angle shows when Bebe Rexha was struck on her face during her show in New York tonight.
According to her mother, she needed 3 stitches. The incident happened right at the end of the show when she was saying goodbye to the audience.

Sources have reported that her mother revealed Bebe had to get three stitches; another video clip shows the flashing lights of an ambulance on the scene, presumably getting ready to take the performer to the hospital.

It appeared that everyone had been having a great time, up until the point where Bebe was injured. The Grammy Award winner had invited a fan on stage to sing “I’m Gonna Show You Crazy” and many attendees reported that it was a great night, up until the phone hit her in the face.

Why do fans throw phones at performers?
Some audience members may throw their phones at performers in an attempt to get their attention or to have them acknowledge them. This is especially common at large concerts, where it can be difficult for performers to see individual fans.
Others may throw their phones at the performer in order to record the performance or in the hopes that the performer will record a selfie or take content. Many celebrities have spoken against the practice; One Direction reportedly told fans not to toss mobile phones on stage. Rapper Lil Uzi Vert was hit in the face with a phone at Wireless, and both Chris Brown and Bad Bunny have been involved in controversies related to throwing phones back at the audience.
Hopefully, Bebe makes a speedy recovery and this will be the end of the trend.
