Chris Rock Drama: Will It Continue At The Oscars?
The Smiths aren’t happy about his latest special on Netflix…
It’s been a year since the infamous slapgate incident that occurred at The 94th Academy Awards and it seems like Chris Rock hasn’t learnt his lesson yet.
American actor Will Smith walked up to the stage and struck the comedian after he joked about the former’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. “Jada, I love ya. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it!”, said Chris, referring to Jada’s shaved head which was due to her struggles with alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease the actress and singer has openly spoken about.
Will, who accepted the Best Actor award for his role in the biographical King Richard the same night, has since tried to reach out to Chris and amend their relationship with a remorseful apology that he posted on Instagram.
In spite of that, it doesn’t seem like Chris has moved on. The 58-year-old stand-up comedian slaps back in his latest Netflix special Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, blaming Jada for sabotaging the otherwise pleasant evening and mocking the Smiths’ marriage.
Chris quipped, “Not a victim, baby; you’ll never see me on Oprah or Gayle, crying. You will never see it. Never gonna happen.”
Neither Will nor Jada have directly responded to the live comedy special. However, a source close to the actress cleared the air on Jada’s involvement in the controversy, according to PEOPLE Magazine. “Jada has had no part in all of this other than being heckled, Chris is obsessed with her and that’s been going on for almost 30 years,” said the source.
While Will himself will not be making an appearance at this year’s Oscars ceremony held on March 12 due to his 10-year ban, despite leading the critically acclaimed drama Emancipation, we don’t know if Jada will be present at the star-studded gala. If she does, it sure will be awkward.
“Right now Jada is focused on her book that will come out this year,” said the source indicating that the Collateral actress is over it.
