Rihanna Apologies For Islamic Verse in Savage X Fenty Lingerie Video

Barbadian songwriter and music producer Coucou Chloe has received backlash for the use of an Islamic Hadith, which can be heard within the show’s soundtrack

Volume 2 of Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty lingerie collection premiered on October 2 in a digital formatted show on Amazon Prime Video.

The video fashion show – which certainly gave Victoria’s Secret a run for its money, as it  – features some of the biggest names in music, film and fashion industry; with performances and appearances by the likes of Lizzo, Demi Moore, Bella Hadid, Miguel and many more, all trend setters in their own right, embodied what it means to be “savage,” as they strutted around in some of the hottest designs by Savage X Fenty.

While everybody loved the diversity and inclusivity of the cast, some fans recognised something that, arguably, shouldn’t be making an appearance within a lingerie fashion show…

A segment of the show’s song ‘Doom,’ created by Barbadian music producer Coucou Chloe, contained a remixed version of an Islamic Hadith on it. A Hadith are words of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) which are sacred to the Islamic religion; therefore, a few fans took offense as they deemed it inappropriate to be used within the video.

Due to the immense amount of backlash, music artist and producer Coucou Chloe reduced her interactions on Instagram and deactivated her Twitter account.

On October 5, she reactivated it and posted an apology on her social media channels.

Yesterday Rihanna and her team at Savage X Fenty issued an apology to her fans:

“I’d like to thank the Muslim community for pointing out a huge oversight that was unintentionally offensive in our savage x fenty show. I would more importantly like to apologize to you for this honest, yet careless mistake,” read the statement.

“We understand that we have hurt many of our Muslim brothers and sisters, and I’m incredibly disheartened by this! I do not play with any kind of disrespect toward God or any other religion and therefore the use of the song in our project was completely irresponsible! Moving forward we will make sure  nothing like this ever happens again. Thank you for your forgiveness and understanding, Rih”
