The UAE is making its Miss Universe debut, having recently crowned a long time resident with the title of Miss UAE 2024. Emilia Dobreva will be representing the Emirates in the upcoming competition, which is taking place throughout the next few days in Mexico City, Mexico.
The UAE’s participation in the prestigious pageant comes a year after Bahrain and Pakistan made their debut with contestants Lujane Yacoub and Erica Robin. Emilia will be joined by contestants from other newcomer countries like Belarus, Eritrea, Guinea, Iran, Macau, Maldives, Moldova, North Macedonia, Somalia and Uzbekistan, competing against the likes of Miss Philippines Chelsea Manalo and Miss Venezuela Ileana Márquez.

Who is Miss Universe UAE Emilia Dobreva?
Emilia, a mother of three, has lived in the UAE for over a decade and her husband, according to sources, is Emirati. She speaks Arabic and was crowned Miss UAE in a private ceremony back in October. Here, we share a few little known facts about the debut Miss UAE.
She was born in Pristina, Kosovo.
According to Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam the model was raised in London, UK before moving to the UAE with her family.
She’s an accomplished model.
When Emilia was 12 she began modelling, which allowed her to travel the world. From New Your Fashion Week to beauty pageants in Chengdu, she’s walked the runways at a number of notable fashion events around the globe – including Dubai Fashion Week and Riyadh Fashion Week. In 2021 she appeared on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam.
She enjoys traveling.

Where is Miss Universe 2024 Taking Place?
Miss Universe 2024 will be held in Mexico. This will be the country’s second time hosting the contest after previously hosting it in 2007.
Miss Universe 2024 Has A New Set of Rules
This year’s edition of the pageant will see new rules implemented for contestants. Previously, only women between the ages of 18 – 28 were permitted to enter. However, in September 2023, the Miss Universe Organisation announced they will be removing the upper age limit for contestants, meaning contestants over the age of 28 are now allowed to compete.

In previous years, viewers in the UAE, KSA, and GCC have been able to livestream the pageant on the official Miss Universe YouTube account. It is likely Miss Universe 2024 will also be broadcast on the channel.
