Proper hygiene and a little caution can go a long way to staying safe

It has affected travel, the global economy and even fashion – the novel coronavirus, CoVID-19, continues to affect thousands of people around the world since the outbreak first began. With so much information out there, things can get a bit confusing regarding safety and hygiene. BAZAAR has rounded up advice from the WHO and other agencies for a quick checklist.

1) Soap is your friend

Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap or clean them with an alcohol-based rub to kill any viruses.

2) Cover your nose while sneezing

When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your bent elbow so that you don’t transfer germs to anyone around you.

3) Avoid contact with your eyes, nose and mouth

Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth, especially if you’ve been in public. Contaminated surfaces can pass viruses to you.

4) Contact medical care early

If you experience shortness of breath, fevers and coughs, call ahead to your local healthcare facility and seek medical attention. This will allow them to direct you to the right place and prevent any diseases spreading.

5) Limit the use of masks

According to the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention, the prolonged use of medical masks is likely to cause respiratory problems. Normally, the masks are not meant for use by the general public and may accelerate infections.

In addition, authorities generally advise keeping international travel to a minimum. It is also important to keep up-to-date by routinely checking with official announcements. Keep an eye out for updates from the WHO and Ministry of Health.
