There Will Soon Be More Beaches in Dubai

A new initiative aims to add an extra 12km of sandy recreation space to the coastline, just in time for the cooler months of the year

For Dubai residents and tourists, there will soon be more beach day options to choose from than ever before.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s Prime Minister and Vice-President and Dubai Ruler, has approved a plan to add an additional 12 kilometres of beaches to the city for both tourists and residences to enjoy.

According to Arabian Business the new development will begin at Al Mamzar Beach and continue to Umm Sequim II, covering over 1 million square metres of coastline.

Sheikh Mohammed also tweeted that there are 29 other projects yet to come, developing more “green spaces and gardens” in the city’s residential areas.

“We are continuing to develop our city… we continue to develop our quality of life… we continue to build our future,” the ruler said.

Talking about the expansion of beaches, His Highness tweeted that there will be “…more areas for swimming… and better running paths… and longer bicycle streets,” emphasizing the quality of life being the key to enjoying both living in and visiting Dubai.
