The highly anticipated return of The Crown’s fifth season will appear on our screens with a new royal couple.
Netflix shared a first look of actors Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki portraying Prince Charles and Princess Diana in the upcoming fifth season of the royal drama.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana were previously played by actors Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin.
In the released images, the new Prince Charles appears older and is pictured wearing an olive-coloured suit as he stands, seemingly distressed, outdoors on a terrace. Princess Diana is photographed laying on a sofa, contemplating deeply about something, as a letter lays on her lap. The fifth installment was initially going to be the British drama’s final season, but the show’s creator Peter Morgan changed his mind and confirmed that there will be a sixth season.
“As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” Peter says, according to Deadline.
Netflix has not announced a release date for the new season yet, but it is reportedly due to air in 2022, and we couldn’t be more excited.
