Designers, brands and models took to Instagram to share what they’re doing to reduce their carbon footprint

The fashion and beauty industry banded together on Earth Day 2020, with many notable fashion houses and supermodels making a promise to cut down on plastic consumption and utilize recycled materials whenever possible. From vegetable patches to eco-friendly collections, here’s what they’re doing to support the health of our planet.

Ralph Lauren

American fashion company Ralph Lauren pledged to use 170 million plastic bottles in their products and packaging by 2025, in hopes to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans and landfills. Their Earth Polo collection is made entirely from plastic bottles and is created by using a waterless dyeing process.

Vivienne Westwood

The fashion house known for referencing climate change on the runway has pledged to put pressure on the industry to be more environmentally-friendly. It has also committed to having 100% of its wood pulp-derived fabrics FSC-certified by 2021, and will prioritize Next Generation viscose within its designs as it becomes more readily available.

Together with @canopyplanet we are celebrating #EarthDay with the release of the video ‘Vivus’ created by @aidanzamiri featuring a poem by spoken word artist & activist @kai_isaiah_jamal – with the aim of drawing attention to the direct link between the clothes we wear and the destruction of the world’s Ancient and Endangered Forests. We have made a commitment to protect the world’s most vital forest ecosystems in our supply chain by ensuring that no virgin wood pulp used to make or package its products comes from areas connected to de-forestation and forest degradation, and only comes from responsibly managed forests. The supply chain today is opaque but, with the help of Canopy, Vivienne Westwood is putting pressure on the industry and working with its suppliers to make this a reality. It has committed to 100% of its wood pulp derived fabrics being FSC certified by 2021, and will prioritize Next Generation viscose as it becomes available. #EARTHDAY #MIRRORTHEWORLD
