Meghan Markle’s Co-Star Saved Her From False Engagement Rumours
Wendell Pierce opens up about working with the Duchess of Sussex on ‘Suits’
Meghan Markle may have swapped her title of Hollywood royalty for real-life royalty, but her former Suits co-stars still look back on her acting days with the utmost love and respect.
Wendell Pierce, who played the Duchess’ on-screen father in the hit TV show, has recently opened up about working with the royal in an interview for the BBC’s radio show, Desert Island Discs, noting that working with Meghan “was great… She’s a really good actress and was always sweet, always kind.”
The actor also revealed how he saved Meghan from a potential PR disaster whilst she was dating Prince Harry. When Meghan’s character, Rachel Zane, got engaged on the show, Pierce helped his co-star avoid any unecessary confusion with the press by making sure there were no false engagement rumours circling around the former actress in real life.
“We were shooting one day, before the engagement [to Prince Harry],” he explained in the interview. “In the show she was engaged, and she had a ring on. We were about to get out of the car and I said, ‘Don’t get out. Give us the ring. There’s a paparazzo down the street. If a photograph got out with you with a ring on, it would explode all over the world.'”
Pierce also shed light on his final bit of advice for Meghan before she left Hollywood to join the British royal family. “When we had the final scenes I said: ‘Listen, your world is going to be forever changed, and no matter where you are, you can always know that you have a friend in me.'”
